I enjoy The Last Ship.

Grandma and I got the Firefly series to plug in.

It destroyed the weekend rather nicely for us. I recommend it.

We were Burn Notice aficionados. We still plug it in now and then to watch it. But to binge-watch for a couple days and see the whole thing through - Firefly.

Thanks, guys. I'll look these up too :)

Top of the Lake - It was a crime thriller mini-series. It stars Peggy from Mad Men. The acting, directing and writing were great. It's only seven episodes.
Dexter - The first four seasons were good, but then it got bad, especially seasons 6 and 8.
Broadchurch - A British crime thriller that I liked. It was a bit contrived, but it was well executed.
Black Mirror - It's basically a modern version of the Twilight Zone. It's only six episodes and some were critically acclaimed.
Sherlock - A modern version of Sherlock Holmes. The first episode is my favorite. It's well acted. Each episode is like a movie, 90 minutes long, but there are only 9 episodes.
Rectify - It's about a death row convict who gets released based on DNA evidence, though he might still be the murderer. The first two episodes of season one were great, but the pacing gets a bit slow. Season two was awesome.

All of these are on Netflix.

It'll break your heart that it only lasted one season, though there was a movie made.

Oh, sure. I know. It's too bad, because it was really a great series.

And frankly, I would've been okay without the movie. It wasn't bad, just had that tacked-on feeling for us.

Oh, oh, oh. OP? Another one to consider: Dead Like Me. We thoroughly enjoyed that series.

Until very recently I haven't been a fan of TV series (except growing up with The Wonderful World of Disney, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., the Wild Wild West, I Spy, Mission: Impossible, so on). Years ago I worked a case taking care of a young man's daughter who lived with him at home. The young man was a TV addict. There tends to be some downtime in home care and I ended up watching on TV some of whatever the dad wanted; one show was Firefly. I liked it for a few reasons: it was a scifi-western, a combo I'd not seen before; it was very well-produced with great costumes and other props; and the lead actor had an unusual gift for subtle humor while being a great, handsome, if anti, hero.

The arts to which I decide to adhere are scarce; still, I enjoyed this show. I wasn't surprised at all when fans loudly objected when it was cancelled nor that it was soon picked back up.

Sounds like a lot of good suggestions, Lord Tyrion, thanks!!
Not_nadine: I never saw "Lost", but I'll consider that too.

We'll probably be done with Sopranos by next week, then we'll start a new show.
Appreciate all the help!

The final season of Dexter effectively ruined everything that had gone before for me.

I would rather they simply stop with no explanation than mail it in the way they did.

Incidentally, I haven't seen it but I've heard nothing but good things about the Fargo series with Bill Bob Thornton.

I find that most series do progressively get worse after the first couple seasons.

I think that's pretty much right. Some shining examples of that for me: Suits and Psych.

Some exceptions for me: STTNG. The first season had a couple of good things, but it was better when they settled into their characters and environment. And I liked later shows of M*A*S*H than I did the first season or two, although I wished they'd had Alan Alda get a haircut that was vaguely appropriate for the setting.

Like I said, we were Burn Notice aficionados, and for the first number of seasons the quality was pretty well up for us, but by the time they hit the final season, we were ready for it to be over. The show was showing fatigue. We were a little conflicted with the ending but for the most part liked it.

When I have the tv on.. it's either cnn bbc or the ID channel . I haven't watched a sitcom or any kind of show other than investigation shows in years. Good luck with finding something you would enjoy.

Usually the TV is off all day (my kids have no interest in television) then my husband and I watch a movie or an episode of whatever show we're streaming when our son's asleep.

I recommend 'Longmire'. It started on A&E but got cancelled at the end of the third season because although it was popular it wasn't popular with the right demographic. And it ended with a huge cliffhanger! Luckily Netflix picked it up and is starting season 4 in September. It's a great show about a modern day western town with a Sheriff named Walt Longmire. We love it!

Also 'Justified' is great if you haven't tried that yet.

STARSKEY and HUTCH.

Think David Soul only fought vamps in Salem's Lot? Guess again, bubba, as Bay City's goovtastic cop duo take on not only dopers and gangsters, but all kinds of way-out weirdos--devil cults, voodoo, ghosts--John Saxon even shows up as a vampire in one episode. Suzanne Somers in the nuthouse, Huggy Bear vs. Frankenstein (okay, I made that last one up).

Check your local listings.

You know, I never even really thought about that!
