....be nice if she'd check in once in a while.....don't want to sound snotty-but it galls me when we grow close to a member of the Board-then they just vamoose, never to be heard from again.....I speak to Evelyn quite a lot on Facebook. She's fine, she's started writing again.
Some of us need space and time, time to find ourselves. I'm sure that's a song lyric.....be nice if she'd check in once in a while.....don't want to sound snotty-but it galls me when we grow close to a member of the Board-then they just vamoose, never to be heard from again.....
...true dat....just venting...Some of us need space and time, time to find ourselves. I'm sure that's a song lyric.
I read somewhere that, just like the English sending criminals to Australia back in the day, the Americans sent the gingers to Maine.
The genetic causes, ethnic origins and history of red hair - EupediaI read somewhere once that the "ginger gene", or the gene that produces red hair, is like the X-men; mutated. And in order to produce red haired offspring, both the mother and father must carry this mutant gene, even if they aren't both visually gingers.
I don't know how true all that is, but my husband--who is of Irish, Scottish, and Potuguese decent--is a true red head. He's going darker as the years go by, but once upon a time his eyes and hair were an exact match. He has about a billion freckles as well, but tans like a movie star. Lucky.
I, on the other hand, have hazel blue eyes and light brown hair. Yes I pick up blonde and red highlights in the summer, but brown is brown. (I do have German, Irish, and Scottish blood though, and for some reason no one suspects me of fraud when I walk around with with red hair. Must be the pasty complexion?. )
But despite our differing hair colors, (natural, that is.) our son wound up with lovely red hair. It's a nice, rich red, darker than his daddy's was and about the same shade as what I've been coaxing out of a bottle. He's inherited my blue eyes, too. I'm really dreading the teenage years...
Believe it or not, yesterday I was behind a Volvo, with Maine license plates, and about a dozen different stickers plastered on the back. One actually stated “Gingers Keep Maine Weird.’I read somewhere that, just like the English sending criminals to Australia back in the day, the Americans sent the gingers to Maine.

My daughter wants to know why it's called "red" when to her eyes it's orange.
And when did this ‘ginger’ nonsense come about? I grew up with a bunch of redheads in the family and not a once did I ever hear the term ‘ginger.’ Is it some sort of PC type of thing, or did they all just get tired of being nicknamed ‘Reds?’
...not about feeling ignored, and I am well aware of the vagaries of the human condition...it's about never seeing her for nearly a year...no activity at all here, I'm concerned and upset all at the same time....I agree. Also, I know a member who had an illness in the family and then got sick herself. Wasn't here for awhile. It's not about who feels ignored but the concern, "I haven't seen so and so for awhile. I hope they are doing well."
Sir, did you post pictures of your trip to NY? Did I miss it?
Only a few Siggy, because I was struggling to upload them, but Jordan's taught me how to post them straight from my phone, so I should be able to post the rest.I agree. In my case recessive to gray.Happy St Patrick's Day to ya. (It's the 17th here now.) Also went down to O'Reilly's billiard parlour. I had sought of red hair when I was ten, then it went dark brown. Red hair is a recessive gene to black hair. I suppose they'd be a lot of people in Maine with black hair as there were the French immigrants up there.
Exactly. Sometimes I think the same people who are gifted with naming things are not gifted with good color sight. For instance, here's a "Redbud" tree...My daughter wants to know why it's called "red" when to her eyes it's orange.
