<wipes tears as I flash back to being little and listening to this with my dad>
I didn't know this. I was listening to Natural High this morning.
View attachment 15178 He will be missed. RIP Passed away on his 79th birthday.
One of the legends.
R.I.P.
..."The Hag" was one of the most unique talents in the world of TRUE Country Music....this hit me like a medicine ball to the gut, even though I knew his health had been fading...what a soldier, he played damn near all the time his entire life...I gotta dig out my "Greatest Hits" CD and let 'er rip!......this weekend, it's Penny Loafers, PBR and white socks in your honor old friend....
The first non-toddler song to which I knew all the words was Silver Wings. My mom and dad got married in between his 2 tours of Vietnam, and I suspect my mom listened to that one a lot when he left the second time. I still love the song, and think he had one of the most beautiful, melodic singing voices ever. I'm not affected by most famous person deaths, aside from, "Oh, that's sad," but this one makes me truly sad.
This is beyond sad news. Next to Alice, Merle is my favorite performer. Saw him three times in concert and met him in 2010. He signed my Sing Me Back Home book before a show. He was pretty reserved, didn't say much, but he sang like a slice of heaven that night.
RIP, Merle. If you can, please find my pops wherever it is you fellas go when you leave here and play him a song. He's a fan, too.
RIP to one of the old school greats.
Oh hell no.
RIP, or at least, in Muskogee.
Another of the greats. .. ..... RIP
Didn't he have a stutter when he was not singing?
I only ask because I used to have a brother who stuttered (may he rest in peace).
RIP to a true country gentleman
