Anyone going to watch this one? I think I will, but will probably record it. I remember watching the first ROOTS and totally just hooked to the series. I thought it was an amazing look at history.

When I am so hooked on a movie or series, and then they do a remake of the series, I tend to avoid them. I love my memories of the old one. It's just me.

The only two things I can think of that I watched the old and the new were both Stephen King things. The Shining and Carrie. I loved both Shinings. I loved the old Carrie better, but I felt the new Carrie was good.

Anyway, off track -- Did you see the original series ROOTS? Will you watch this one? Thoughts?

Was Roots originally broadcast in the late 70s? "Kunta Kintee"? Yeah, watched the original though I don't remember much about it other than that name. Don't recall if I saw every broadcast...how many were there? a week's worth? I've not read Hailey's story, either. Is it fiction or non-fiction? historical fiction? Don't watch television much these days and I'm not inclined to catch this rebroadcast. Wouldn't mind seeing the 2nd Shining...mini-series, right? The original movie was my first exposure to anything SK...loved the movie...don't care what the haters say, haters gotta hate. grrr. Might have caught the original Carrie on television at some point during the last many years, don't believe I've every watched the film start to finish and have not seen any remake. Is there a remake of The Stand, too? I thought Molly was fine. Didn't bother me. They've made three or four film versions of Matheson's story...and I think I've seen two of them. Be handy if some place on the website someone provided a head-s-up from time to time, what's showing on the tube. As it is I'll sit down, look at the TV Guide fifteen minutes to half an hour after the hour and realize oh crap I could be watching so-and-so, something I'd like to see...in its entirety. Well whuddaya know...looks like I'll hit post on this this one. Things are looking up. :)

Did I miss it? History channel, right?

Yes, I will watch it. I saw the original.
I saw the cast on GMA? And I already despised the guy playing the owner. (horrible word)

Poor actor guy, I was giving him stink eye for playing a role.
I think first episode is tonight. I think I'll record all of them and then I can have continuity when I binge watch.

Yes Spidey, I agree. Everyone should watch this. But I do have a soft spot for the original.

Yep, Kunte Kinte.

I will tell a horrible story now. When I was in high school and we had to dissect frogs, my partner and I named our frog kunte kinte. And she chopped off one of his back feet.

See? I told you it was awful.

Watched the original and read the book. Walter Oobleck , I believe it was originally advertised as history, but it turned out that Haley did some educated guessing and flat out made up some parts. He had a couple of different stories: first he denied the accusations that he made stuff up, and then later he said he never claimed that ti was 100% his family's story, but was intended to represent an era and the general story of slavery in the US. Not sure about this one--it looks prettified all to heck. If it shows up on Hulu, I might give it a looksee. Now that i think of it, I think there's a History Channel channel on the Roku, but it doesn't get every HC show. Maybe.

He also was sued for plagiarism and it was proven that he 'lifted' some sections of another authors work and placed it in his novel. That said, Roots is a very powerful read.
