His father originally said that when Kunta was born....but I misunderstood.
I thought he was holding the baby up and telling God, "behold the only thing greater than Yourself".
If my memory serves me right, Kunta's father did indeed hold him up and make that statement. Then, later, when Kunta was in America and Kizzy was born, he did the same thing with her because he did not want to lose his traditions from Africa.
No, I think he was holding up Kunta and telling Kunta to behold the only thing greater than himself. The heavens.
Same here, when I originally watched it I thought he was saying it to the gods. Then on the recent re-watch I realised he was saying it to Kizzy.
I agree he was saying it to Kunta. It was when I saw him saying it to Kizzy I recognized my misunderstanding.
I watched the third one yesterday. It was done so much better, IMO.
