Let us not forget, and I think we can all agree, his Frankenstein Monster was, is, and shall always be, the CREEPIEST.

The woods are lovely dark and deep
My kids woke me up with the news. They are in mourning (yep, I have passed on my passions ). Wonderful actor who lived an incredible life. @daysbestrange, did you know he was a spy in World War I I as well?
Did not know that. With his good looks and acting skills I bet he was a great spy. I love his Dracula movies, Mr. Stoker would have been pleased.

...I think Lugosi was a an OK actor, but Plan 9 will always haunt his career...unfairly...he was much better at lampooning himself, or in more 'serious" roles.....

Yes...not the best way to be remembered, at all. For all the good work, there was Plan 9...
And of course my preference for Lee as the Count could be age-related (culture/nationality-related too, perhaps? Though Lugosi wasn't born American (iirc), Americans may prefer him). Had I been born 5-10 years earlier...who knows?

All of us are influenced in this way, and I wonder if any of us can be separated from it. Are we sure we'd want to be?

I'm wondering if TCM will toss their Sunday schedule in favor of a Christopher Lee day--they usually do when a legend such as he passes from this world. Hope so.

Jeesh, just last Halloween we pulled a Hammer Double feature, Curse of Frankenstein/Horror of Dracula, back-to-back on my brother-in-laws behemoth HD TV. The stuff looked GREAT, probably didn't look that good when it was first released. A lot better than the old VHS bootleg I watched over and over as a kid. Such colors, egad, never seen such RED reds. I can see how these films had such an impact in their day. Lee helped pull horror out of the black-n-white atomic giant bug sci-fi rut of the fifties, and introduced garish, blood-splattered horror. God bless em for it.

Sorry, just sorta ramblin here. Was quite the Lee fan, y'unnerstand. Gotta make a recommendation:

House Of The Long Shadows, 1983. A spoof of sorts, of all those ol Flicks, starring not only Sir Christopher, but Peter Cushing (their last collaboration), Vincent Price, and John Carradine. Can't go wrong, cats.

More ramblin. LOVED Lee's cameo in Dark Shadows. That line, "men in OUR profession", somethin like that. Might have to give that one another spin soon, as well as ATTACK OF THE CLONES (there's a flick that oughtta get a lil mo respect now), REVENGE OF THE SITH (first ten minutes, anyhoo), and the Tolkien flicks.

Damn, I knew he was OLD, but cats, this hits me harder than Robin Williams (and that SUCKED).

Egads, but the ABSURD jurisdiction of death, eh?
