Did not know that. With his good looks and acting skills I bet he was a great spy. I love his Dracula movies, Mr. Stoker would have been pleased. My kids woke me up with the news. They are in mourning (yep, I have passed on my passions ). Wonderful actor who lived an incredible life. @daysbestrange, did you know he was a spy in World War I I as well?
Yer a kid, whatdya know?Aw, Lugosi was great, but he only did DRACULA twice (on film, anyways) and one of em was that Abbott and Costello flick.
I've just dug Lee more. Hammer horror all the way, yer bugger.
I can't actually be sad about Christopher Lee's death. His life was too cool. All you can really say is "Well done, Sir."
...I think Lugosi was a an OK actor, but Plan 9 will always haunt his career...unfairly...he was much better at lampooning himself, or in more 'serious" roles.....
All of us are influenced in this way, and I wonder if any of us can be separated from it. Are we sure we'd want to be?Yes...not the best way to be remembered, at all. For all the good work, there was Plan 9...
And of course my preference for Lee as the Count could be age-related (culture/nationality-related too, perhaps? Though Lugosi wasn't born American (iirc), Americans may prefer him). Had I been born 5-10 years earlier...who knows?
Muskrat,TCM does a nice job with their "TCM Remembers" vignettes when a legendary actor dies..here is the Christopher Lee one,I just saw it on TCM.Just the music, with the video of this great actor, the expressions on his face..good stuff.
