I generally don't like facial hair (on men or women!You're not alone.The last couple of times I've seen him, he didn't have it to say if it looks better in person but I don't know if the picture was taken before or after that.
) but think the mustache is fitting for the picture and also for the plot of the book (the little I do know about it!). 
Or how about burntchickenbrownbrown? It's what a character on Two Broke Girls used and I've not forgotten it!

Aw, it only sounds good when I say it written, it's awful when I speak it--my accent is so whack... I nearly said (yar?) then! I think I must say this a lot. 
Eh, not feelin' the mustache. I prefer the epic beard as seen on the Dead Zone/Firestarter/Cujo jackets.

I think he should add a grungy bit o' beard to it... if you're gonna go facial hair, I'm not so keen on the 'stache only.
Never been a fan of facial hair but have it myself occasionally. That is mere laziness though. Whenever i want to look nice i'll shave it all off. The stache... wasnt a hit in my opinion.

Every man should grow a caterpillar on his top lip at least once. Some guys can pull it off, but some look like their noses just did spring cleaning and swept the garbage out on the curb.

A bit more grey? It looks like he's been standing in the snow too long, it's possitively white
And he's just showing off with that guitar - custom spider and "king" inlays, I gotta say, I'm just a bit jealous.
I think Steve suits a muzzy, I don't mean to sound like I'm ripping on him, but he has a rather large top lip, the distance between the base of his nose and the top of his lip is larger than average.
