I have a 13 year old daughter. That’s bad enough in of itself, but I often get texts from her that are simply some sort of code, and nothing else. (example: "*js") I’m clueless for the most part. I do understand “?,” "k"and “idk,” but that’s about the extent of it. When I get one of these messages I often send back “???,” and in return get another coded text from her. This will go on for about 6 replies on average until I get frustrated and text “SPEAK TO ME IN ENGLISH!”

Does anybody have a list of the most common used text message codes (or abbreviations) so I can attempt to learn them. I understand there are literally thousands, but I’m more interested in the most common ones used by kids these days, as I don’t feel like learning what seems to be a whole new freakin’ language. :(

When I text, I type everything out, and even then, it comes out in code. I have found my brain works faster than my fingers, but I never proofread as I feel my fingers got the message. Uh, no. Everything on my body is working independently and makes up it's own sh*t. That happens to me here to, but I'm awful texting. I wonder how anyone reads and understands anything I'm trying to say. I'm like an archeological find -- my own language. Like Nell.

 I'm that way, too. I rarely proofread, being certain I've hit the keys I've meant to, and the message ends up very humorous to the person receiving it. Sometimes autocorrect is invoked - in my defense, sometimes unnecessarily - and the resulting message is downright charming. Fortunately, the folks I text tend not to be code mavens. I have recently learned what TTYL means. Talk to you later.
