Bette took no prisoners. She was one tough broad, and I use that term in the nicest way possible. She was a woman in a mans world and she had to be tough to get what she wanted.

I snorted. It was just a short scene but hilarious. And I spelled Sylvia wrong!

Still digging this series. Jessica Lang is really knocking it out of the park with her spot-on portrayal of Joan. Susan Sarandon is great as Bette, but...well...nobody can really do Bette Davis like Bette Davis.

Bette embraced her aging. Joan tried clinging to some semblance of youth, and ended up, like W.C. Fields would say, All dolled up like a well kept grave.

Heh heh heh. Fasten yer seat belts, it's gonna be a bumpy season.

Ah! I totally forgot this was on last night. I will have to do On Demand tonight. yay! Can't wait.
Jessica L. is so great in this. But I pretty much love her in anything.

Still loving it. Can someone tell me please - was Mamacita taping Joan's underchin? Is that how Joan (Jessica) kept looking younger? I want to try that.

She was pulling her skin back on her neck, taping the back of her neck. At night, she probably used

Joan also shoved her face in a sink full of ice and ice water every morning.

Ah - I remember now from Mommie Dearest (movie) that Joan Crawford taped and iced and lemoned. And hated wire hangers.

sisterwife - I'm going to order some Frownies - they will pull my eyebrows back up to their proper place. But I need help with the underchin. It seems to have nothing to do with my weight - just a little bulge of fat under my chin.

Hoss- my husband tried to watch it with me and couldn't get into it. I'm bummed. We don't currently have a show together except the RV show - Going RV maybe. We're going RV-ing in retirement.

Shame they did not have superglue back then instead of tape. Pull back and one drop will do ya?

    I don't know. ?

I would recommend facial cupping for the under chin. It takes a long time and dedicated persistence, but you can get it smaller and your chin line more shapely using them. And NO, this doesn't include fire.

Watched the actual movie, Whatever Happened To Baby Jane, on TCM this morning. Jessica has the same facial structure as Crawford but only slightly resembles her. Susan, OTOH, is nearly a dead-ringer for Bette, especially in the make-up. At one point, Bette turned to look over her shoulder and the resemblance was striking. Oh, and the fellow who plays Victor Buono is scary-close, too. The film holds up pretty well, the only thing that really dates it is the soundtrack. Knowing about the backstage fun and games gives one a different view of the movie. Quite interesting.

I'm a film buff and always loved the super weird and awesome movie "What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?". I've read things about the insanity that was the set during filming.

    I'm loving this show!

    That movie is deliciously disturbing.

I did the same thing last night. On Demand. It was great. I had seen it before, but forgot most of it.
I only really remembered the poor parakeet scene.

I actually got myself a little confused (could have been the wine) between the two. I kept expecting backstage things..

Susan is dead on as Bette. I'm even more impressed with her in the series.

I'm starting to feel sad for Joan. At least Bette had a good mom.

I binge-watched the first four episodes last night at my brother's house (his wife had recorded them). OMG!! This is a wonderful series! Sarandon and Lange are magnificent in their portrayals of Bette and Joan. I think that Lange has nailed her part more than Sarandon though. I think every actor is perfectly cast in this! Everyone! My prediction is that both leading ladies are going to be up for Emmy's. It's weird how life is imitating art, isn't it? So strange. Wouldn't it be crazy if twenty years from now there's a mini-series on the behind-the-scenes of this show? How crazy would that be? It certainly gave me a bigger insight into the how's and why's of what went into the making of the film. I hope this series wins tons of awards!
