Hm. So there was a
"Shut up"
near the beginning and the end.
But...
Is it just me, or did they just waste the entire "Bethisode"? Why bother with it, if she was being written out by the mid-season? Hell, why not just have Daryl and Carol find her as a walker and have to put her down? They could even have had her being chomped at the end of the hospital intro ep, if they really had to have that.
And Dawn. Why do they have people go out like such punks? Though Daryl was a badass.

And...they almost got me with the end credits. Almost. (That's not a spoiler. That's just saying to people yet to see it, 'Keep watching!')

Having Beth turn into a zombie would be repetitive, they've done that twice already. Meryl and Carol's daughter.

True enough, though it really just means they'd written themselves into a bit of a bag with the character.
However, while I was no fan of the character in the end, killing her off in the way they did, when they did...well, it seems like they just got a set of D&D dice out and gave them a roll to see who died mid-season. Given the entire ep given over to her, it would've been better to let her continue to the end of the season, maybe killing her off a couple of eps from the finale a la Dale).
I can't help but feel that they rushed things along with Dawn, too. I appreciate that characters may not hang around long in a comic book series, but...different medium, different rules.

I love the show, but some of the decisions the producers make baffle the hell out of me.

Caught up on the 2nd to last, and mid-season finale last night.

I was dreading seeing who was going to die, my 12 year old had it spoiled for him and did his best to spoil it for me, too. Rotten child. ;) I did not cry, but only because everyone in the house was watching ME, rather than the tv, when Beth got it. I struggled mightily, especially when Daryl broke down and then Maggie seeing Daryl carry her out. If I had been by myself, I would have been sobbing.

Beth was not a favorite, but she didn't bug me as much as she does others. She was a part of this group we all love, so she will be missed by me. I am not that impressed by Noah, either, though. That may change, but I would have not been sorry to see him go instead.

I do not think the mean cop lady meant to do it, seemed like an accident. And seeing Morgan was good, but I think if he follows that map, he won't be catching up anytime soon. No reason to head to D.C. anymore, and that waa the route marked on that map.

I think they wanted to kill off a character, but not a major one or one that is popular. So Rick, Michone, Daryl and perhaps now Carol, are off limits. They built up Beth so that she became more important and they killed her off.

Considering this show is survival horror, I think they need to get more bold with who they kill off or else it gets too predictable.

AMEN.

I think the point was to emphasize the bleakness they will each face now.
She was the Tweety Bird of the group, the pretty, sweet one. That's hopeful (no matter how I didn't really like her. Maybe I have a soul hole--lol). Now they've lost both D.C. and their sunshine. Harsh mid season. The rest will be each of them trying to deal with the probable future; as they've said at least three times this season, this is as good as it gets. I'm thinking it will be a catalyst to Daryl going 'bad' again (they have to do something with him--he's already had one redemption--or his character will be as flat as Maggie and Glenn have become); he tried to take care of someone else for the first time in his life, and failed. Couldn't find Sophia, couldn't protect Beth... yep. He'll have a nutso half season (at least).

Daryl cries all the time--I agree with Nicotero's assessment of him as an arrested development 12 year old. But when
Rick cried... Damn. Had both my daughter and I in tears. The only other time he's broken down is when Lori died
(and that got me, too. Maybe my soul hole isn't complete ;) ). He's old-time tough. I like him.

Hm-m. The question then is, does the bleakness need emphasis? It is bleak. The world has moved on and will never go back to how it was. What they have is the new normal. I'm stone-cold certain that we all get that, so why do they feel the need to keep whacking us over the head with 'It's bleak! It's bleak (Coral ;))! Look at the bleakness, won't'cha?'
Yeah it's bleak! What, did they think I was going to mistake it for Disneyland? (Although...)
The problem with constantly killing hope/a better nature is that in the case of the former, if there's no hope for a better future - forming a proper enclave/somewhat functional society/community, hope that the zeds will one day die out, etc - everyone might as well eat a bullet (Eugene was that hope; that's now gone), and in the latter, a total loss or lack of humanity - some kind of line in the sand, if you like - is just going to end with me thinking 'Ah well, if there's no attempt to hang on to some kind of decency...' and not care two hoots for any of the characters.
But movin' on...
Meant to say before, but there was a second or two where I thought Michonne and Carl had left Judith in the church with the walkers. I couldn't believe it, but if they wanted a shock, if they wanted bleak...there ya go. Don't shirk. Do it. Maybe throw Carl in as well, as he attempts to save his sister (as any brother would, regardless).

She wasn't that important, though. Maybe she could have been, maybe they could have made people care about her more (again), but only by expanding her story more. As it stands, she was on the periphery, had a bit of story in the ep with Daryl, then didn't surface again until the hospital ep. That alone, with occasional scenes in later eps, really wasn't enough to make her interesting.
For me, the impact of Beth's demise didn't come from the event itself, but from Maggie's reaction to it since she's had some character development (in the past, granted). Beth was never more than a bag of bones.

I liked Beth. Her actions never put anyone at risk. She was a bit of a tag-a-long character but no more so than other characters have become. I think what bothered me most about her was the constant look of surprise on her face - her expression reminded me of Reba the anger management doll. The expression seems to be normal for Emily though lol. I don't think Beth's death had anything to do with the storyline... Emily is probably going on tour to promote her new album. I think Beth actually understood and somewhat accepted Dawn's point of view until a reason was needed for her demise.

Michonne and Carl's actions were out of character. Before this season, they would never have put Judith's safety at risk to save that dumb azz preacher.

Have y'all noticed there seem to be many many more Black survivors than there are Black zombies?
I thought that after the first season , but when I looked closer, it turns out that there were more black zombies than I thought--the process just sort of greys everyone out. The skin tone differences aren't as noticeable.
