I remember reading something about "go-go juice", something that these mothers would give to kids in pagents. I don't know if this mother was one of them.

She was. If I remember correctly go-go juice consisted of an energy drink mixed with juice in a sports drink container with a pop top lid. So she could just carry it around and drink it continuously.

I also take issue with the size issue but not for the reasons so well put. I don't care if you are the size of a jumbo jet or as thin as a twig, there is absolutely no excuse for taking up with a convicted paedophile when you have children and especially if said paedo had abused your own daughter, that has nothing to do with size but to do with having a very twisted view of what is right and what is wrong.

Oh yeah, I wasn't saying it was okay for her to be with a pedophile, just that she may not be as emotionally mature as one would hope a mother would be.

I don't think that is any excuse. She is an adult, and she needs to make adult choices. Especially as a mother. The minute you bring a child into the picture, many of your own needs take a back seat.

It doesn't matter how lonely you are, anyone you bring home needs to be someone you want in a relationship with your kids, too. And if they've, oh I don't know, say, already molested one of them? He's off the list, no matter how pretty he makes you feel.

I did an internship for Child Protective Services. We had a call that we needed to investigate immediately. I went along with two seasoned workers and they talked while driving to the house. The mother was well known as were her poor daughters.

First time CPS was involved when the father was arrested for incest with both daughters.Medical exams showed molestation/damage. Daughters related several instances of molestation. Mom claimed she knew nothing. Father went to prison.

Awhile after, CPS went in to investigate molestation of the two girls by Mom's new boyfriend. After some investigation, boyfriend decided he was going to take a job in a far away state. Daughters were still in the system.

This time, third, we were on the way to investigate boyfriend #2 regarding molesting the girls.

I was a green, wet-behind-the-ears intern so I just listened to the caseworkers talk. They were obviously upset and disgusted. One said, "Where does she find these guys? Molesters R Us"? "She finds a guy that won't bother her for sex and turns a blind eye when he's missing with the girls." "Hey, she has a man. She's a hot one. Being able to get a man with two kids in tow."

It was pretty gut wrenching.

Peace

Crap in a blender! Why were the girls still in the home? How many times does mom need to bring these monsters home before the system figures out she's not gonna stop on her own?

Mom went along with counseling and parenting classes. Swore she had no idea what was going on and said the right things. And to tell truth, group homes and foster homes are scarcer than a hen's teeth. If the girls were removed they would have gone to juvenile justice facility. (Where kids who have committed crimes and found guilty of crimes are held. The two girls are not criminals they are victims but...sources are scarce.)

Peace.

Encountered this kind of behaviour many times with Children's Services.

I've encountered stuff in dependency and neglect cases that would turn your stomach and make you want to give up on the human race. I won't talk about it. And you don't want me to. You may think so out of morbid curiosity, but no, you really don't. Just sick, wrong, and things that you know result in a doomed child down the road.

What worries me is wondering what kind of audience this show caters to. Has society dropped it's standards this bloody far? I never use the term"white trash" but it wants to tumble off my tongue very muchly. There is no other term that fits these folks.
IMHO, it's part of the dumbing-down which has been ongoing in our society for long time. It's a sign of the times.

It would be hard to see that stuff day after day and still remember that most of us are doing the best we can, that most children grow up to be pretty much okay, and that even the worst childhoods can be overcome. (After all, in most of these cases, somebody called CPS, right? Someone who realized "this ain't right.") But I think it's important to remember that too.

It's very human to want to set ourselves above others. It makes us feel as if we are somehow safe. It's reassuring. "I may have done some bad things ... but not like that. I would never do that." I doubt that very many people watched this show and aspired to be that family. It's a train wreck, and then as I said, it's very human to want to feel as if we are above some of the worst behavior.

It's the same dynamic that goes on when discussing such topics, don't you think?

Oh, absolutely! And it motivates you more to make sure that people within your own sphere of influence have healthy environments.

Here, there and everywhere.
I'm with you, Jen. I'm just about barfing, I'm so angry, and I'll probably say some insensitive things. Let's put aside the fact that this woman is fat, ugly and stupid, because none of that is an excuse. She's a grown-ass woman, and she's f**ing "dating" the guy who molested her 8-year-old daughter. This makes her, in my book, a walking POS.

I've seen the show once, and it made me depressed for days so I never watched it again.

Somebody needs, as soon as possible, to: 1) take those girls out of the house; and 2) freeze that cow's assets before she spends it all on the criminal who raped her little girl. All of those girls are entitled to payment for their appearance on the show, and their share needs to be placed in a trust immediately.
