After four years of conflicting views with Suzy, psychological games, and then cutting down to a casual smoker of once or twice a week and still being labeled a true smoker I cut back to once or twice a week and still kept the smoker Label. Then I asked someone if I can consider myself a non smoker if I smoke only one cig on New Years and thats it for the entire year. When I heard that I Keep my smoker Label even then I became dissatisfied until I realized that is my Problem fluctuating back and forth as a casual smoker sometimes once a week and other times once a day which means more than that at a Party, for example. Of course, I said to myself Feeling silly, either I quit with concequence and in full or I will always be a casual smoker with a tendency to pause all my casual Habits and routines sometimes leaving me a lousy run in the mill smoker. NOT ME! I said and decided then to fully quit. I now can honestly Claim the title of non smoker for about a year now and the benefits are remarkable as opposed to my silly excuses then. Thanks again, Suzy. Couldnt have done it without you! I owe you one. :encouragement:

Well, the patch has started making me feel wierd. Rashes, upset stomach, aches, weirdness. So I'm back to pure willpower and sitting at about four a day. It drives me nuts that I can't do what my mom did--just quit. Why don't they have rehab for smokers? It's a well-known fact that nicotine is harder to quit than heroine. So I repeat: where's our rehab? All the quit smoking aids have so many side effects, you're almost worse off with them than you are the product they're trying to "heal" you from. It's frustrating!

On a good note, my sister in law decided we needed to watch a certain documentary. As of last Friday, my husband and I are Vegans. At least we gave something up...

Trying to quit smoking AND giving up meat? That's a tough hill to climb. Good luck. I already bored you with my story of quitting smoking, just sitting here typing about it makes me want a friggin' Marlboro...

Arggghhhhh… Vegans! My daughter's best friend is a Vegan. She stays over almost every other weekend. What a royal pain in the ass it is trying to find something for this kid to eat for dinner and breakfasts with all the restrictions -- nothing that includes milk & eggs in it – WHICH IS JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING... LIKE BREADS, PANCAKE MIXES, ETC! She often says "that's okay, I'm not really hungry," which is a lie but trying to make us not feel guilty. But it doesn't work.

Isn’t there some internment camp in California we can round up and send all the vegans to? (just kidding, but frustrated)

Hahahaha yeah...surprisingly, the meat and animal products have been fairly easy to live without. I can't give up honey though. Not happenin.

And hey, it's organic tobacco...that's still vegan right?! ;;D

The patch made me feel weird, too. It made me want to smoke more but I didn't because I could get nicotine poison. Has anybody tried the gum?

Hey, I get it! I was a huge vegan-basher for years! And you're right, about the only thing a vegan can eat is fresh fruits and veggies. And stuff. There's a lot of "replacement" items out there, but fresh is easier to deal with. No labels to read.

It's been a massive adjustment. I was a meat eater extraordinaire up until five days ago. I grew up in farm country for Pete's sake! But after seeing the documentaries that I did, the thought of eating a burger makes me want to vomit now.

An unforeseen side effect is that my husband and I both feel about a thousand times better. More energy, less pissy, blah blah blah. Not trying to be preachy, just sharing our story.

Now that I'm done hijacking my own thread: back to your regularly scheduled programming. :biggrin2:

I had a friend that went vegan one day. After a year, he said that he felt "lighter." Is that how you feel?

I haven't tried the gum, and I'm not sure I want to. The stage 2 patches have like 14mg of nicotine, when I'm only smoking 5mg a day or less. The math doesn't add up to me, and I don't know if the gum would be better. I'll have to check next time I'm at a store.

I love you for this so much. When people try to make food without my allergens I appreciate it, but if they can't I always say I'm not really hungry.

I don't know how old your daughter and her friend are. But ask her or her mom for an idea of something you could keep at the house, that won't go bad.

Thanks.

We picked her up today on the way to school because the kids have an early SADD meeting before classes. They’re 14 years old. She’s staying over again this weekend. So I asked her what she likes for breakfast. She said bananas, grapes and pineapple. I asked her is there was anything else and she said no, that’s it. So I’ll pick some up today and try and to figure out the trick to cutting up the pineapple before the weekend. Se said for dinners she likes tofu and veggie burgers. I said that’s not happening, but I will either pick up a vegan veggie burger form the local joint I know has them, or a Chinese dish that has vegetables and tofu, for her. She wouldn't give me any other ideas.

Your local grocery should have frozen vegan meals (Amy's is a popular brand) that you can microwave for her and might not be a problem for you to keep on hand. They're a little on the pricey side compared to other frozen meal options but I guess you're paying for convenience--and the vegan label. ;)

Thanks. I'll pick some up today if I can find them.

My daughter’s friend says our house is her favorite place to visit. Lots to do and it’s the only place she strays from her vegan routine because we always have home baked cookies on hand... which is her only achilles heel. My daughter says we're mean for putting them out when her friend comes over. I tell her I'm not forcing her to eat them. :)

You can substitute ground flaxseed meal for eggs and it's good to toss in other baked goods even if you're not vegan so wouldn't be useful only as an egg substitute to make vegan cookies. It's 1 TBSP flaxseed meal + 2.5 TBSP water to equal 1 egg. Flaxseed meal has Omega 3 fatty acids, lignans, and fiber which are good for all of us. Now that there are so many gluten free and vegan options available, you can probably find that at your local grocer, too.

Thanks for the heads up. I didn’t know about the substitute for eggs. And I guess you could substitute margarine for butter, and soy milk for milk (if a recipe calls for it). Maybe I’ll have the kids try it out, although their last baking escapade was an utter disaster. Apparently one entire bottle of pure Vanilla Extract = one teaspoon in their eyes. :facepalm_smiley:
