I miss the East coast birds ... but the west coast birds are pretty cool too
I am so glad you started this thread ... I have been a bird watcher since I was a kid ... My mom's dad was a big bird watcher ... as well as mom ... now I've got Teddy into it !!
Hi Chris - I love birds, too.I am so glad you started this thread ... I have been a bird watcher since I was a kid ... My mom's dad was a big bird watcher ... as well as mom ... now I've got Teddy into it !!
We have had a pair of cardinals living in our hedges for years. They always welcome us home. We also regularly see mourning doves, crows, turkeys, woodpeckers and hawks. In summertime the occasional hummingbird and of course good old fashioned robins! Two years straight the woodpeckers took up temporary residence in one of my Halloween decorations (the headless horseman's horse)!
Mourning Dove. A flock of these guys descends on our side yard each afternoon to pick up the bigger seed the finches, sparrows, chickadees, et. al. toss from the bird feeders (I guess they like the seed I bought this year--lol)View attachment 862
Morning Dove- always in the fields.
These are my Mother's favorite. I always thought there was something a little sad about them. Maybe that soft cooing they do?
Yep. They're well named. This is the first year that I've seen a lot of them, especially in our yard. Definitely need to make the trip to the farm supply for bird seed again (apparently they like it better than the Wally World stuff--lol
Saddest thing I ever saw .... I've not forgot it to this day .... when I was a college one day ... there was a huge plate glass window in dining area. A cedar waxwing flew into it and died. I ran out to see if the bird was just stunned, but no, and I had never seen one before ... so beautiful ! So sad....
We have several of these lovebirds living in our palm trees ... they are beautiful and very noisy ... very skiddish thoughNo way!! You have these? Gorgeous..I am soooooooooooooooooooo jealous.
You're welcome. I love birds too. My feeder is just outside my kitchen window that is over the sink. It almost makes doing dishes a pleasure....LOL
Ha! I always thought these birds were cool too... especially with the fish draped in their mouths!!
Puffins
These little guys are another favourite of mine. They are found on some islands in Scotland and also (I believe) near Newfoundland?)
maybe @staropeace would know more about that.

scary too(Well this is a SK website, and in his world of writing, not everything is sunshine and lollipops.)
My bad bird experience… The other year during our annual 4th of July picnic a bolt of lighting struck a birch tree about 20 yards from where many of us were gathered. The lightning shot out of the base of the tree along a root and headed straight for us (probably because our well was between the tree and us). Before hitting the well it diverted into the house when it came to the underground wires and blew up our dishwasher, a TV and a chandelier. A birdhouse was on the birch tree and it literally exploded. The baby bird carnage was not a pretty sight.
Relax, Pic is not as bad as you'd think.
