Lucky you to have had such a good book. Vi fick läsa två böcker (visserligen översatta men ändå) och det var Of Mice and Men by Steinbeck and Lord of the Flies by Golding. The first book i read in English was Money in the bank by P.G. Woodhouse. Very funny book. I still have the copy and it is full with notes in the margin and underlined words i didn't understand. I think i was 16 at the time.
Sorry, i notice that one sentence is a mix between swedish (first half) and english (second half). I hope what i meant was reasonably clear anyway.

I just started Little Star by John Ajvide Lindqvist translated from Swedish. So far it's very good. I also have his book Harbour to read. He wrote Let the Right One In, just in case you didn't know.
I really like this writer. I've read his first three books and have the next two (little Star & Let The Old Dreams Die) in my TBR pile. I like his take on the vampire mythology (Let The Right One In or Let Me In) where he shows what happens when a vampire entires your home uninvited and his take on zombies (Handling The Undead). Harbour was abit too long for me, but still good.

Even though i liked the american movie i must say that the part of the girl vampire was much better in the swedish version. But i still think that Let the right one in is his best book. It is not just the vampire but also the effective way to describe a suburb to Stockholm (We actually lived there for two years when i was a little kid, at the suburb that is visited in the novel i mean) that really is good. Have you read the short story sequel to Let The Right one In?

Because of so many glowing recommendations by board members, I have started my first Robert R. McCammon book, "Boy's Life." I bought it at the last library used book sale I attended. I only began this morning, but am very impressed by what a descriptive writer he is.
This one is still at the top of my Need To Read list, once I'm (finally) done with The Regulators, I'm going to track it down.

Must admit to being slightly curious too... Haven't read any of him. We'll see what happens....

I haven't either, but MadamMack has been recommending this one for years and I'm excited about discovering it. & him, as a new (to me) Author.
You guys are in for a wonderful treat with McCammon! He is one of my top favorite authors! They Thirst is one epic vampire novel and, if it hadn't of been for King publishing The Stand first, McCammon's Swan Song would be hailed as THE best post-apocalypse novels ever. His novel Mine is one of the most terrifying thrillers I've read.

Oh man-I saw Mine at the used bookstore last week (very good condition and I think it was a first edition for $3) and I didn't buy it! :facepalm_smiley: :(

Well, go get it! ;-D At least now you know that it's recommended reading (by me!) and next time you see one you can grab it. Be forewarned- I almost threw the book down while reading the first chapter because it was so freaking disturbing (and McCammon, being a Southern gentleman, usually is more restrained with graphic scenes, but he went there in this book and it is unsettling) but I kept reading and am glad I did. He creates two of the most unforgetable female main characters ever in this one! Good, good reading! It NEVER lets up! NEVER!

I'll go on Monday and pray that somehow it's still there! They close early on Saturdays. Cross your fingers for me and thanks for the rec! Worst case scenario, I can check it out from the library, right?! :)

Maybe you can call the bookstore now and have them hold it? Trust me, you'll want this one in your collection!

If you can make it past page 5 (of the hardback) you'll be alright. Up to that point it's gruesome, but it pays off. Just keep telling yourself it's just a story......:O_O::a24:
