I've heard One On One is great, too-- thoughts?
One On One is good but Pearl, for me anyway, just flows. I think Tabby reached her pinnacle of her writing powers with Pearl- she showed everyone what an amazing storyteller she was and how well-developed her characters could be. The entire time I was reading it I pictured a younger (than she is now) Whoopie Goldberg as Pearl.

I just started Little Star by John Ajvide Lindqvist translated from Swedish. So far it's very good. I also have his book Harbour to read. He wrote Let the Right One In, just in case you didn't know.
I've really enjoyed both his novels and his short stories! The zombie book was Handling the Undead, and the book of shorts is Let The Old Dreams Die. Some of those stories are creepy as hell, and they definitely stuck with me. I can safely say he's one of my favorite writers, and one that really makes me wish I could read him in his native language: no matter how good the translator, I'm sure there's something lost in going between languages.

Even though i liked the american movie i must say that the part of the girl vampire was much better in the swedish version. But i still think that Let the right one in is his best book. It is not just the vampire but also the effective way to describe a suburb to Stockholm (We actually lived there for two years when i was a little kid, at the suburb that is visited in the novel i mean) that really is good. Have you read the short story sequel to Let The Right one In?

The Swedish version was much better than the American version, IMHO, except for the voice dubbing. It was just awful (especially Oskar)! I would have much preferred to have watched it in Swedish with subtitles.

You guys are in for a wonderful treat with McCammon! He is one of my top favorite authors! They Thirst is one epic vampire novel and, if it hadn't of been for King publishing The Stand first, McCammon's Swan Song would be hailed as THE best post-apocalypse novels ever. His novel Mine is one of the most terrifying thrillers I've read.
Okay, now y'all have me intrigued--lol. I've not read any McCammon.

I finished Reamde, by Neal Stephenson. I'd glanced at a review for his work on Goodreads and the person used the word "infobomb" and it's an apt description. His books are challenging but well worth the effort.

I've also started The Burn Palace, by Stephen Dobyns.

Decided to give the Kindle Unlimited option a try with their 30-day trial offer even though I haven't been doing much recreational reading lately. Had never read The Hunger Games trilogy so got that as my first book on December 19th and am now 186 pages into Mockingjay.

I’m clueless again. Kids told me all about the song “The Hanging Tree.” Said the movie people MADE the star of the Hunger Games sing it... reluctantly. I said I saw that movie a couple of years ago, and why would they make the girl sing a song now? They said two other movies were already out and they’re making a fourth... and that they’re based on books. I’ve officially been given the title “Dork.”

I'm still in the clueless camp about Frozen--and not feeling badly or wanting to do anything to rectify it. I'd seen the first Hunger Games film and just found out the second one is now part of the free Amazon Prime instant video choices so will watch that at some point and the others when they become available. Had heard the books were worth reading so thought this would be a good time to give them a try. I didn't know about Jennifer Lawrence having to sing the song, though, so maybe that will keep me out of the Dork category. ;)
