"Have I run too far to get home?"

I'm still kicking around the Mt. Everest books ("Last Climb", by David Breashears and Audrey Salkel, is a fascinating account of the early British expeditions to Everest and George Mallory's last climb.) But, in the meantime, I just finished "One Second After" by William Forstchen. Someone had posted here about this book, and I decided to download it to the Kindle, which I did a year ago. Then forgot about it, and just re-discovered it the other evening. What an eye opener! I encourage everybody to read this one. It could not be more relevant in light of current events across the globe. You won't lose a lot of time reading it, but you may lose a lot of sleep after reading it.
Good call whoever posted about "One Second After". In the middle of that one right now, so far a very good read.

Another reread started today - FEVRE DREAM by George R R Martin. Long before GOT, Martin wrote a near perfect vampire novel, full of great characters and scenes. Right up there in my top 3 vamp novels of all time ( alongside SALEM'S LOT and DRACULA )
I have never heard of that, I may have to keep an eye out for it in the future.
I am rereading Salem's Lot now and thoroughly enjoying it.
I still find the whole Houdini rope bit a little bit silly though.

Why silly? Just curious :) That's one of my favorite books--I can't count how many times I've read it, and it never gets old for me.

I will pop it into a spoiler again just in case anyone hasn't read it yet!

I just found it a little jarring.
The book is still easily one of my favourites, I just remember thinking to myself - "how on Earth can he get out of this situation?? run for the window and jump!! for the love of God lad RUN!! oh no, he is caught, good and proper...trussed like a pig no less....what will he do?? will he be saved??? Will Barlow arise at sundown and turn him??
And then felt a touch deflated when he remembers reading a book on Houdini last summer and uses that knowledge to escape.

I am reading Firestarter by Mr. King and That Which Should Not Be by Brett J. Talley.

I am thinking of getting some Clive Barker. Anyone have any suggestions?
If you prefer straight horror, Damnation Game and Coldheart Canyon are both quite good.
A mix of horror and fantasy and Great and Secret Show and Everville and Imagica.
One of my faves is Galilee.

Gotcha. That bit didn't bother me--shows that
he's thoughtful kid. I think if he had run, the result would have been the same (tied up), but he would have been badly injured as well. By using what was in his memories, he bought himself time and possibly life :D

I've read some by Barclay. Like him. His books usually stand for themselfes. Can recommend Too Close to home, Fear the Worst, Never Look away and A Tap on the Window. If you liked No time for Goodbye i should continue with Barclay.
Just finished Fear the Worst, and downloaded Trust Your Eyes. We are covered in about 10 inches of snow, so no school until Monday at the earliest. I'm really enjoying Barclay's fun reads! Thanks for the recommendations, Kurt (is that your real name?).
