I blitzed through Dolores Claiborne, what a great little story that is!!
I could have sworn I had already read and slightly disliked it, but it turned out I was wrong :)

Started Cell earlier, I'm about 70 or so pages in and so far it's not really grabbing me at all...
Hoping it gets better.

I haven't read anything since I finally finished Goldfinger by Ian Fleming. (It got to be a bit of a slog in the middle when he spent two chapters describing golf in British terms that I was not familiar with. Heck, I'm not even familiar with American golf terms!) Having read all the Bond books that preceded Goldfinger, I have to say this was the most sexist and racist of them all.

Now I am in a quandary as to what to read. I want to read something new and was set to purchase Get in Trouble by Kelly Link for my Kindle, but something distracted me and now I'm not sure. Anyone read it?

Got Queen of Bedlam, McCammons second corbett book, with the mail today. Planning to take it with me to Jordan. To read by the pool and at the beach and while sipping a drink in the evening. How does that sound?
Kurben, did you read Speaks The Nightbird yet? Queen is the second book in this series. I guess one doesn't really need to have read the first book to enjoy Queen. I think it's a great choice for poolside reading! Enjoy!!

No, but i plan to take both with me. I have a tendency to read quite a lot on holidays. I'll take some other books too. At least 5 books will accompany me. Just mentioned because i wasn't sure it would arrive in time and so was a bit glad that it did.

You have a tendency to do ALOT of reading whether you're on vacation or not, Kurben! =D I don't know how you find the time to read so much.

I tried to read "Speaks the Nightbird", the first Matthew Corbett book by Robert McCammon........I'm a big McCammon fan, Swan Song is one of my favorite books of all time, but the Corbett book? Uggghhh, felt like I was trying to plow thru an Ann Rice novel....couldn't stay with it.

I'll be the first to admit that Speaks is one of those books that is harder to get through than alot of other McCammon books. It's full of details about the way of life back in the 1700's, etc. But, the books in the series that follow are certainly not like that. I think McCammon may have realized that he might have written the first one more along the lines of a textbook than a novel. Anne Rice's The Feast Of All Saints reads like this for me. The first half was a chore to read and I almost put it down but by then I was too invested in it to do so and kept plodding along. It paid off in the end. Maybe you could pick up The Queen Of Bedlam, the 2nd in the series, and start there? You might miss some of the character developement from the 1st book, but the writing won't be as dense as the 1st one.

I might give it a shot. I like details as much as anyone....to a degree....when I tried to read Rice's Interview with a Vampire series, it was trying to read a shopping list for how you would accessorize your wardrobe if you were a vampire back in the 1600's.....my wife loved those books, I hated them...lol, The Corbett series very early on reminded me of the Rice novels. His writing style seems completely 180 degrees to Stinger or Swan Song, weird....have a good weekend sir.

I am around 130 ish pages in and I think the problem is the characters.
They don't seem fleshed out as well as usual in King's work.
I always tend to care what happens to the people in his books, but to be perfectly honest I couldn't care less if all 3 get mullered in the next few pages or not.
Very weak so far, really hope it gets better.

I've begun The Secret History, by Donna Tartt. I remember trying it a couple of times before and finding it hard slogging, but now I'm a different reader and I'm hooked.

And I found out that for any of you who read Life After Life, by Kate Atkinson, there is a companion novel coming out that centers on the life of Ursula Todd's brother.
