Just started The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck. Don't know why this one has eluded me all these years, but I've finally gotten around to reading it and I'm really liking it so far. The classics are classic for a reason!

I enjoyed The Secret History quite a bit! Not read Life after Life, but I like her Jackson Brodie books. I'd like to be able to see the TV movies/shows with Jason Isaacs they've made of those.I've begun The Secret History, by Donna Tartt. I remember trying it a couple of times before and finding it hard slogging, but now I'm a different reader and I'm hooked.
And I found out that for any of you who read Life After Life, by Kate Atkinson, there is a companion novel coming out that centers on the life of Ursula Todd's brother.
I think all three of Donna Tartts books are good even if the Secret History wins the prize. The Little Friend and The Gold Finch i enjoyed too.I enjoyed The Secret History quite a bit! I'm about 2/3 through Swan Song and hoping to finish soon
Collected some more books from my mum to incorporate in my collection. Solsjenytzins Gulag-Archipelago. Seven books with many characters from real life dealing with the camps during Lenin and Stalin. Just read the foreword so far where he says that he has not published it so far because of the people still living but since they now are banned there is no longer any option but to publish. He had some experience from sitting in the camps himself. Also some books by a rather weird but amusing science ficton writer, Philip Jose Farmer. Written several interesting series ; Riverworld, Dayworld and The World of Tiers series. Not always good but mostly interesting. Also decided to keep Marion Zimmer Bradleys The Mists of Avalon. Sentimentality. Does not think it is the best arthurian novel but is also amusing.
I am around 130 ish pages in and I think the problem is the characters.
They don't seem fleshed out as well as usual in King's work.
I always tend to care what happens to the people in his books, but to be perfectly honest I couldn't care less if all 3 get mullered in the next few pages or not.
Very weak so far, really hope it gets better.
Being Mortal. Eye-opening book about medicine, aging and illness, and how much care is too much. Pretty absorbing so far.
I found an Ebook thru Amazon called "Extinction Horizon" by Nicholas Smith. I'm pleasantly surprised so far. Found myself over a hundred pages into it last night and it was 1am in the morning. Ebola virus gets combined with a Vietnam era experimental super soldier virus called "VX-99"......you can guess the results. Super strength zombies with a case of the munchies. It's a fast paced ride so far. Apparently it's the first book of a series.
I finished the second installment the other day, "Extinction Edge". I think this guy is on to a pretty good plot. The second book was good also. I like the zombies in this series. After I read this post, I purchased this on Amazon. I started it a few days ago and I'm almost done with it. I have enjoyed it and will be looking for the next in the series. The infected in this book remind me a little of the "28 Days Later" type of infected creatures.
Because of this thread, I've read a few books I never would have known about. I like picking one from this thread every now and then.
