77 Shadow Street had such a good premise but IMO Dean failed miserably by the end.

I actually purchased this book in 2012, and got stuck pretty soon, since I found it to be a "Seinfeld of novels". You know, "nothing happens". So, now I began where I paused in '12, or so. Pretty dumb, but I cannot stand having unread books in my bookcase, although I do have a few, most of them By D Koontz.

I'm going back in time and am reading The Mysterious Affair at Styles by Agatha Christie. Her debut. Written during the first world war and published in 1919. She was good back then too and stayed good for many decenniums. Her plots and intrigues are still among the best thought up and several has been reused many times.

I actually had to look that word up Kurben. I had never heard it before. Thanks for teaching me something!

I finished This House is Haunted. If you like a good Victorian ghost story, I highly recommend it. I don't believe in any of that mess, and I was creeped out just a bit!
Now reading The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins at the recommendation of a friend. Also, skimom2 , started The Handmaid's Tale last night, but fell asleep before I could get too far in.

I'm 2/3 done on SeveneveS. There is a lot to this novel, taking my time. On the weekend I started H is for Hawk, a memoir by Helen Macdonald....it is stunning to put it bluntly. And also Black Sheep, by Susan Hill. It's a short novel but it's packing a wallop so far.

The woods are lovely dark and deep
Finished The Mourning Bells by Trent and I am trying to read The Border.
Maybe too fantastical??
Open to any thoughts?:upside:
Will have to set The Border aside as my reserved list at the library has two of my requests set aside, Our Souls at Night by Haruf and Breaking Creed by Alex Kava. Maybe I will be in a more receptive frame of mind when I do get back to Mr. McCammon's latest.:icon_eek:

I will do that on occasion. There are certain books that require a specific mood, there's no sense forcing the issue.
