Yep, that's the one :) Thank you! and thanks for recommending Thriftbooks. I found a book my daughter needs for school, a book I've been looking for, and 3 books LilMan wanted, all for $20 and free shipping :)
Have you received them yet? I hope that they are all in great condition. I just ordered three books from them last week. One should hopefully be here tomorrow, with the other two following shortly after that.

I decided on another read through of The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury. It's every bit as good as it was the first read through :)

I thought a reread of The Martian Chronicles was a great idea so I checked out kindle books and got all excited because it was only $1.99 but then I read a few reviews that stated that the kindle edition was edited. I've read reviews for other titles too that state the kindle edition is edited. What the hey! I'm becoming disenchanted with my kindle :(

I'm slowly getting into Tabby's Caretakers (only about 50 pages in) and just finished Morality in BoBD this afternoon. Thought I'd read that SS - wasn't it included in Scribner's edition of Blockade Billy? If I did read it before, I remembered absolutely nothing, which is hard to believe because it is a very disturbing story.

Still waiting for The Book of Matt from the library. Am really anxious to read that one. Thinking of starting Sphere by Crichton while I wait. NEVER been one to read more than one book at a time before. Not sure why I picked up the habit in the last few years.

I read Sphere :) I read it long ago though so I don't remember what it was about BUT I do remember I liked it :)

I wonder why they edited The Martian Chronicles anyway. It's not like its graphic :/

As it turns out (or at least how I think it turns out), the kindle edition was probably taken from the 2012 Simon & Schuster book edition. S & S (or whoever) removed the chapter titled The Way in the Middle of the Air. I guess they thought it was too racist, or maybe they didn't like the use of the "n" word. The dates in the chapter titles were also changed to later dates which causes some confusion with storyline topics such as the Cold War.

I hope kindle isn't editing stories themselves :(

It's sad too because its not like it uses the N word for the sake of using it. Is that the one where all the black people take off for mars, leaving behind earth?

Edited is a dirty word in my opinion. I will always wonder what did I miss?

Avenue Of Mysteries - John Irving

It was a struggle just getting through the first two chapters. I like John Irving and the book seems to have good reviews. Maybe I'm not in the mood for this right now. If the next couple of chapters go like the last two, I may have to come back to this one.
That's the only book by him I haven't read besides Until I Find You. Last Night at Twisted River and A Widow For One Year are my favorites.

It's sad because I always wanted to read an Irving novel ever since I watched Hotel New Hampshire.

The edits seem to come from a 1997 edition of the book (from Wikipedia)

A 1997 edition of the book advances all the dates by 31 years (thus running from 2030 to 2057). (This change counteracts a problem common to near-future stories, where the passage of time overtakes the period in which the story is set; for a list of other works that have fallen prey to this phenomenon, see the List of stories set in a future now past.) This edition includes "The Fire Balloons", and replaces "Way in the Middle of the Air" (a story less topical in 1997 than in 1950) with the 1952 short story "The Wilderness", dated May 2034 (equivalent to May 2003 in the earlier chronology).

Ray Bradbury was around then so maybe he approved it.

I haven't read the newest one, either, but it's on my list :) Until I Find You was bad, IMHO, and I don't say that lightly: Irving is in my top writers.
Lol...yeah, I was told this by many readers that I respect which is why I skipped it. I eventually want to try it anyway, but I'm sure my vote will probably join that concensus.

Total thread jack - noticed you recently changed your avatar. I have TWD on the brain (unintentional zombie reference! ;-D ) and haven't watched any of season 6. Your avi is making me VERY suspicious, but I dare not enter that thread. As long as Daryl's okay...;;D
