Yes, I left out wrestling, older women, orphans, Germany, New England, and tragic deaths. :)
All life situations.
Wrestling--his passion
older women--read Until I Find You, and you'll gag over that one (lol)
orphans--he was a half-orphan (no bio dad)
Germany--he liked it there
New England--he's from there
tragic deaths--Dickens is his hero--HAHAHA!

You know it. He could body slam Wilke Collins while reciting passages from Our Mutal Friend.

I looked it up and Dickens wrestled Hawthorne in 1850 for the British/American title. Dickens was disqualified when his manager jumped in the ring and clocked Hawthorne with a first draft of David Copperfield.

Anathem sounds interesting :) I think the last hard sci-fi novel I read was Dragon's Egg by Robert Forward. I'm too twopid to understand the science behind the story but I really liked it anyways. Do you have to understand the science behind Anathem to enjoy it?

I don't think you have to understand the science--I don't understand much of it and I'm enjoying it (there're even three supplementary math "problems" in the back of the book)--but I'm not sure I'd recommend it. I'm five hundred pages into it, and like I said, I'm enjoying it, but it's not really blowing me away or anything.

Interesting take. Sort of like Hemingway and all the macho BS? Something to think about, I guess.
Yes, like that. As an English Lit/Education major, I am always looking for the subtext and bigger picture when I read. I've always pretty much read that way; even before taking higher education classes.

Love it. Want it.

My clothes can go on the floor.

Actually, some of my clothes have gone on the floor for years (lots of T-shirts + very little room in the closet).

As for what I am reading, I am halfway through "The Stand".

I can grok that lol. What are some of your favorite world-building novels?

I'm a huge Lord of the Rings fan. I also got sucked into Dune (read the first five books before quitting the series), The Dark Tower, Discworld, Game of Thrones, the Name of the Wind series by Patrick Rothfuss (currently only two books, but they're big books and awesome), His Dark Materials, Gibson's Sprawl Trilogy, and probably some others I'm forgetting.

I didn't like the Belgariad (might be misspelling that) or the Thomas Covenant series. I read a lot of Dungeons and Dragons books as a kid (mostly the Dragonlance series), and while revisiting them I find them boring, poorly written, and unoriginal, but they still hold a place in my heart, at least for nostalgia's sake. They brought me a lot of joy at one point in time.

I think the story is about all the black people who take off for Mars. And yeah you're right about the N word. Bradbury was anti-racist and I can't imagine anyone taking offense. And it's not like the reader doesn't know how things were in the past when Bradbury wrote the story.

Same here. I don't see any reason for fiction to be edited at all after first publication. I'm still surprised the Nancy Drew books were edited. I'm surprised Gone With The Wind hasn't been edited.

Thanks :) If Bradbury approved it, I need to get off my soapbox lol.
I'm not sure if it was approved only by Bradbury . I think publishers had probably decided against it. Their excuse that it was less relevant is pretty ludicrous. Someone on another page made a joke saying"that it would be like Orwells novel being changed to a later year like 2015 because it already passed and wasn't a relevant title." I personally think the story sits at a good spot just before the story The Other Foot. If anything it precedes The Other Foot colonization of mars as a lead up to. The idea that Bradbury changed it is sort of a hilarious when you think about the fact that Usher II is a story about the censoring and banishing of literature that they deem irrelevant and dangerous lol

Have you received them yet? I hope that they are all in great condition. I just ordered three books from them last week. One should hopefully be here tomorrow, with the other two following shortly after that.
I just got the last package today :) VERY pleased with the prices and the quality. It was actually 6 books total, 4 for LilMan, 1 for me, and 1 for daughter. I'll definitely be using them again!
