At the moment i feel like something to make me smile. So i decided to read, again, what i think of as the Madeline Bassett trilogy. Right Ho, Jeeves, Code of the Woosters and The Mating Season where Bertie tries to avoid the fate worse than death, getting married. To a girl who (shudder) thinks the stars are gods daisy chain. I am in the middle of the second book right now.

I'm reading The Hobbit for the first time.
Oh man, is this the one where every hobbit, elf, dwarf, fairy, steve and eydie gorme, orc, cave troll has to sing? I listened to this as an audio and I groaned every time the narrator starting singing some forest song. It was always the same tune, no matter when, where, who in the book.

I did not like the series.

That's big at my kid's school. Please let us know what you think at at the end :)
Hi!! That was a quick read. I would say: unputdownable. The ending was kind of meh to me - though I like
the theme of the importance of kindness, and the quote about how many hearts you take with you, and seeing the face of God - so very Catholic without being religious. I guess I thought the ending was meh because it seemed to be neatly tied up - but then I remembered an almost 50ish mom like me is not the intended audience, so considering that middle school kids, or younger, will be reading this - it needed to wrap it up nicely with some hope.
I'm going to pass it on to my 13 year and have her read it. She's reading Speak right now. That's on my required reading list for my kids.

About Wonder: I'm glad I read it. Have you read When You Reach Me? If you haven't, it's a good one. I can send it to you! I will never grow tired of preteen fiction.

Every freakin' book by Tolkien is a bunch of songs and group of characters going up one hill and down another, page after page after page. And then a battle for 20 pages. Then some more songs. Then a group of characters going up one hill and down another...

But when do they ever poop? I mean they sure do like to eat in those books but do they ever mention any of them going to 'use the facilities'? ;-D

I think there's a whole chapter in The Silmarillion devoted the the movement of middle earthen bowels. Even an accompanying song, which Robert Plant covered on his first solo album.

Aw, derf. Don't go googlin. I just made that up.
