Since I newly acquired a copy of The Gunslinger, (it took me five years to find a nice one, guys. I almost cried when I found it at 1/2 Priced Books for $3.50!), I'm staring on my 6th travel to that ebony monolith! Woo! xD
Is it the original Grant edition? If so, you are one lucky lady!

I'm behind on the Scarpettas too. Tell me what you think.
Hey, Deej. Just finished The Bone Bed a few minutes ago. Wow, what a rush! It was great to be back with those characters again after not reading Cornwell's latest books for a couple of years. Felt like I'd never left, if you catch my meaning? The whole book takes place over the span of two days and it never let up! Makes me want to jump into the next installment but I'm going to switch to something else to whet my palate.

Hi KRF - I have a 1982 edition, illustrated

It says "A PlumeBook" New American Library

Have you seen this one before? I think I got it second hand for about 4.95

Ayuh! That's the edition that King was forced to put out after Grant received so many letters asking about his (Grant's) edition after the title showed up in the listings of King books in the front of Pet Semetary when PS was published in hardback. I'm sure that libraries were inundated with people asking about this title also! I certainly had never heard of The Dark Tower book (at that time I was but a mere fledgling in the world of King collectables!) and didn't know what it was or even where to find it as I didn't read any of the sci-fi/fantasy publications that Grant advertised this title in. I tracked down a copy of the 2nd printing back then and paid a small fortune for it($60 was steep in 1984). Now, Neesy, your mission, should you decide to accept it, is to track down the Plume edition that has the title (The Dark Tower) at the top of the cover with King's name at the bottom. Good luck with that!! ;-D

It'd be funny if Neesy said she had one she bought at a yard sale for 50 cents, lol.

I choose to accept this mission - this tape will self destruct in 5 seconds
Hey - you just never know what you'll find out there! (I've been lucky to find some good ones in the past at Value Village)

Well, if you do find one it's worth bucks! I've heard there were only about a dozen of them that made it to the market.

Finished The Whole Town's Talking by Fannie Flagg. I liked it. Wasn't crazy about the ending, but liked Flagg's whimsical writing. Was thinking about the vast differences between her creation of a town and community in this novel, and SK's in 'Salem's Lot, It and UTD.

I'm about 40 pages into Save Yourself by Kelly Braffet.

Since I mentioned in the "latest thrift store find" thread that I got a copy of the Martian by Andy Weir, I have started reading that. It will be the 1st non Stephen King novel I've read since school 20 years ago (of mice and men), and the 1st I've chosen myself.

After reading Rita Hayworth and the shawshank redemption, i had started to read 11/22/63 again just because it was there on my e-reader. I only read about 35 pages, I think I stopped just in time - much longer than that and I don't think I'd be able to give it up.

You have mentioned this book before "When You Reach Me"

I just ordered it through my local library (the large type edition as it's easier on my eyes)

I'll let you know what I think of it when I'm done - thanks!
:cheerful:
I hope you like it! I keep picking up copies - I could have sent you one for free. Oh wait - if you ordered it from the library, maybe you're just borrowing. Let me know what you think when you're done!

I'm so excited you've read some Fannie Flagg. I might have to re-visit something of her's after reading The Girl on the Train - it was a great read - definitely unputdownable. But very dark. That kind of alcoholic frightens me. I've known one very personally.

I need a light read now. Maybe I'll get back to The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie. It was OK, but I was able to stop reading it to read Wonder and TGOTT, and not really miss it. So, not a favorite. I might stop by the thrift store today, make a wish before I go in and find something new. I'm beginning to think that I really need to read some Atwood.
