Did you like TGOTT? I thought it was a really good read.
I liked it a lot! Didn't want to put it down and finished in a few days. I tend to shy away from books that take place in other countries. Simply because I feel as if I miss so many details (significant and minor ones) and innuendos in the interactions between characters. If that makes any sense!! But, I didn't have a problem with this book at all. Must be a pretty easy read. ;-D

As for me, I'm sticking to chic lit. Keeping it light. However, after hearing Joe Hill on the effbee tonight, I'm totally convinced NOS4A2 needs to be my next read. Looking forward to Strange Weather.

For now, The Mystery of Mercy Close by Marian Keyes. It's hitting home a bit, as she sometimes does.

I'm on the hunt for it.

I was at a party last Friday, and there was Fireball, and I thought of you!

Fannie Flagg and Fireball always bring you to mind!

Hi Holly! Yes, I knew about the Fannie Flagg book. Haven't made it to Barnes & Nobles yet to see if I can find a signed copy like I did with her last book The All-Girl Filling Station's Last Reunion (which I haven't even read yet!). I really wish I could meet her in person and hear her do a reading. That would be so cool! Yea, Fireball! I went to karaoke last Thursday and had three shots. Over the course of two hours or so. I was feeling good.....

That would be a dream come true - I bet she does a great meet and greet and reading! I'll have to keep my ears and eyes open. She's a southern girl, so maybe she'll turn up here soon.

I went to a Christmas party and there was karaoke. I wanted to sing Santa Baby but they didn't have the track. What did you sing?

First song I did was Delirious by Prince and the second one was P*ssy Control also by Prince. It was the wrong crowd for P*ssy Control....

I was just thinking of Bigfoot today for some reason!! LOL

I haven't read anything by Fannie Flagg. Think I remember another member posting positive things. Doc Creed, maybe??

Hmmm... we'll have to fix that. She's a good one. I've had a conversation with Doc Creed about Eudora Welty I think, maybe Fannie Flagg too.

Oh!! Shock and Awe baby!! Did you get the mortified stare? I like to think I can sing Prince. I was doing a great rendition of I Would Die 4 U in the car just a couple of days ago. He was so visionary in so many ways.

Oh yes, the s-t-a-r-e-s....... I did the song at the same place a couple of months ago and everyone loved it, but it sure was a different audience this time. Yikes! Oh well, it's not like I'm going to see those same people again, right?

Yes, I enjoyed her first two books. It pains me to say it but she really is trading on her reputation at this point. I appreciated the two books that Welty and Harper Lee praised. She had a marvelous ear for writing farce and tall tales, I think. She wrote like Twain and Thornton Wilder, folksy and unpretentious...whatever remained of that voice is gone. That's my opinion, anyway.

I am currently reading a Temperence Brennan novel. Not sure which one, but I haven't been reading them in order so I guess it doesn't matter. I do like the tv series Bones (loosely) based on them, but I like the books better. They mostly take place in Canada. This current one has a lot of Acadian history, so I am LOVING it.

The book was called Bones to Ashes. Just finished it. (I've become a very slow reader.)

It was an amazing book. Every time I thought I had figured "it" out, I would realize Kathy Reichs had lead me right where she wanted me to be, and "it" was always bigger.

I would recommend her books to everyone. But if you are a fan of the tv show Bones, the character is not the same person.

I have book two in this series. May I begin with it or do I need to read them in order?

My last year read during break was The Bad Books (Bad Magic and Bad Luck) also Done by Lincoln, Vampire hunter. And give myself a few day break for reading because of my new year preparation

My first book to be started at 2017 is Too Close to Home by Linwood Barclay. It was so interesting because its a crime fiction and i'm so in love to that genre (and happens that this book sat for a long time inside my bookshelf so i decided to pick it up)

I'm in a bit of a weird place right now on terms of reading. I think duma key left me with a bit of burnout - so much death and despair - and my attempts to get into From a Buick 8 never really got going. As I've mentioned before, most of my reading is done at night but I started watching youtube videos at night instead. It's taken me over month to reach page 110 but I've started reading a bit more again recently. While I don't exactly find it gripping, I don't dislike it so far and don't have any urge to discard it.

However, on new years day I went to my brother's for dinner and he gave me back my copy of 11.22.63 that I'd leant him (he liked the show) saying he was unlikely to ever get around to reading it, I can let him off with this as he has 2 boys aged 4 and 6 and a pregnant wife so time is in short supply for him. On the train home I read the 1st 3 or 4 pages and God damn the urge to continue is strong. I love this book to bits but don't want to get in to the habit of not finishing books.

Decisions decisions.

I remember the first time I ever babysat my nephews when they were 1 and 5, and I took a book along because I thought with 8 whole hours ahead of me there would be times that I'd get a chance to read.
Those boys never heard the meaning of the word down time and by the time 8 hours had passed I hadn't even read two whole sentences in the book. I couldn't believe it. On top of that I forgot my pain medication and was dragging my bad leg around at the end of the day, exhausted in more ways than one. Someone told me that 2 professional football players were tired at the end of an 8-hour day after watching toddlers. Then I didn't feel so bad but those boys had energy even by the standard of toddlers.
