I didn't know that that came in a cut and uncut version. So when I've had to replace my 1974 version of The Stand, I wasn't getting the same book? I didn't notice a difference but I was leaving years between readings.

The 1990 release restored about 400 pages that had been cut from the 1978 version and as AnnaMarie mentioned, it was because the publisher didn't think people would pay the extra money they would need to charge to print a book that long.

Awww, isn't it terrible what he did? I kinda feel like I should have warned you! I made the mistake of opening a spoiler before I had even started the book, so I missed the big emotional wallop, but I'm kinda glad I did.
Thanks for not telling me :) I'm holding out hope that
Jon isn't actually dead. After all, he never SAID he died, and Tormund and his wildings are right down the hall, and...
Martin is EEEEEEEEEEEEVIL.

Plus, the book would've fallen apart after the first read because Doubleday wasn't known back then for their quality of manufacturing.

You are lucky . . .I really loved book!
That's one I liked much better upon a second reading--I was too young the first time I read it for the politics and emotions to resonate. :)
I have burned through this one. Really enjoying it, but not sure where to go next. I may read Salem's Lot; I may read IT. I chose The Dead Zone over Salem's Lot on a sort of... IDK feeling, maybe the kind of feeling you get when you're at a carnival and see a wheel of... ;) I just wish I had more time to read. Salem's Lot has been on my list since reading the DT books, purely because of Father Callahan.

I am reading David Baldacci's Zero Day. Really enjoying it. I bought one of his novels as a Christmas present for a friend and got positive feedback so thought it was about time that I read one too.
