Church this morning, then went to Target (what a mistake!). School starts here tomorrow so it was jam packed with people who wait until the last second to get their kid's stuff. Then stopped and had a great lunch, grilled shrimp over yellow rice with grilled onions, peppers and feta cheese. Home and out of the heat now parked in front of the TV with my feet up, watching season 6 of The Walking Dead. Yep, I'm done for the day!!

I tell family members back in Michigan that in our area one can get a very real sense of what Mexico is like - the good parts. The food, the music, the strong sense of family and so on.
One year, I got some new neighbors, down the street - Mexican family. They had a big party one Saturday, bouncy house, great smells coming my way, the street was just filled with cars. I walked out my driveway and there is this whole Mariachi band parked by my driveway, in all their splendor getting their hats on and their instruments tuned up. It was great and although I lived a few houses down, I could hear them play. And at Halloween, they took their kids trick or treating and the dad introduced me to the whole family!!! They were so excited to be in their new house.

Brody Dog graduated from school today!

Just back from taking SwiftMom to the grocery store. I hate supermarkets :(

Sox won 16-2! Mookie Betts hit 3 HRs today. Mookie rocks \w/

Off somewhere to get dinner shortly. Still too hot to cook.

Tomorrow is work then the last on campus meeting for my Sociology class. Have to take part of the final tomorrow night as well.

Tuesday is work and then finish up reading and outline for presentation. Shocker, my partner for this project hasn't given me his stuff yet. These things are such a PITA.

Wednesday is work from home day. Then school Wednesday night.

Thursday is work and homework.

Friday is work then homework.

SwiftDogs don't have much time for fun lately :(

Spent considerable time and effort on the roses my mom planted over 30 years ago--a climbing red next to the back gate and standing orange and pink roses beside it.

About twelve years ago they grew six or eight feet high, then dwindled drastically after several bad winters or late spring frosts. When they started to grow back, my uncle, who lived with us for a few years, would complain every third time he took out the trash that one of the climbers would hit him in the eye. I'd tie them back but before long he'd complain again. The guy who mowed our lawn complained they hung out over the grass and he'd walk into them.

Finally I got so exasperated I took practically every rope I had and tied them all back as tight as I could pull them. I really wanted to train the climbers over a trellis but couldn't find anything I liked for under $200.00. This spring I got a sort of double shepherd's hook plus a metal hanger my helper attached to the shed and trained the climbers into an arch between them, for $20.00 instead of $200.00. We had a weird spring, with June and April weather reversed, and the climbers went wild like I've never seen. I don't have my helper now and it took me a long time to work up the courage to climb several times up a ladder, do additional tying and training of the climbers, and spray them with anti-fungus medicine, which I did both yesterday and today. Today I also drove a large piece of rebar into the ground as a spike to tie the other roses, which were leaning at an angle and all folded in on themselves, to spread out and balance better. This was discouraging in 100º weather and I was already pretty discouraged and wishing something would happen.

Just at the right time, after I had cleaned everything up and had a cup of coffee, my best friend and her husband, who live in a college town some miles away, dropped in unexpectedly. The students are moving in and the town was too crazy so they decided to get away from it all. I gave them the house and garden tour and they were very appreciative. We also toured the cemetery, in all, a really welcome and unexpected break!

Recovering from a strange dream I had last night. I feel groggy today. Have you ever noticed that there are some themes and places that consistently come up in dreams. I don't know if dreams are supposed to tell you something or it's just a psychic fart.
