I hate to cry, and don't give in to tears easily. (there have been some exceptions...)

But fictional things can make me cry. The end of "Pay it Forward" gets me every time, as well as the end of "IT". (the book)

I can't see or hear about a horse in pain. Any animal abuse hurts, but horses getting hurt makes me want to cry...and then I get mad.

Betraying the trust of an innocent. If I hear news stories of babies or little ones or critters getting hurt, or worse, it hits me hard. My first response, yes, is a deep sadness. But mostly I want to hunt those mother***s down and show them the meaning of righteous wrath. It's so bad my husband no longer talks to me about certain stories.

I guess I get mad more than I get sad...but tears of rage are still tears right?

I don't like to cry either, but cry often in private.....
Crying is crying, doesn't have to be sad... mine are usually tears of sadness, mostly over what I have done, not what others have done...........

When I was learning how to be a better drunk, one of the things they tried to teach me was that anger is not an actual emotion, but a mask we wear to hide our emotions. I'm not entirely certain I agree with this as an absolute, but I most certainly can get down with the idea of being mad "because" I'm sad.

Most of the things that make me sad are things I can't do anything about, so yeah . . . frustration . . . anger . . . it makes sense.

When I was learning how to be a better drunk, one of the things they tried to teach me was that anger is not an actual emotion, but a mask we wear to hide our emotions.

I can understand this. Being female in an intensely male world, a world that was dominated by my stepfather, I learned early and well that tears got me nowhere, but anger and aggression got me respect. The tougher I was, the more he left me alone and treated me as an equal. Tears were a sign of weakness, and never allowed without good reason. I got so good at being other people, I forgot who I really was. It's taken me years to cast those masks aside and be true to myself. And, unfortunately, when everyone is so used to you being who they want you to be, when you finally stand up for yourself and refuse to be anyone else, people abandon you like rats abandoning a sinking ship. Which can make you pretty pissed off. But it also makes you appreciate the people who stay in your life and love you for being yourself.

I still have issues with letting myself get mad, but I'm happy to say it's gotten a lot better recently. I'm sure there will always be room for improvement, but at least now I know improvement can happen. It's a good feeling. :smile2:

Under your bed
Anne Frank; her life, her story, the diary, and the horrible thing that happened to her ( and millions more). She was such an incredible, talented, promising young writer, a beautiful soul and girl. She never stopped believing in the basic good inside human beings, up to her untimely end. Can't read her, or watch documentaries about her without tearing up. Same with Schindlers List, oh God.

Janis Joplin will make me weep, certain songs at the right time. Coupla old folk Dylan numbers, too. Otis Redding.

Thinkin about my beloved Mary Shelley--of her long, lonely years after the deaths of Percy, Byron, all but one of her children. Mary alone, writing The Last Man, knowing full well how it would feel.

The Wave Speech from Fear and Loathing.

The 'Susan' section from Wizard and Glass. (Hell, several misty-eyed scenes from DT, actually)

Tattoo by Earl Thompson.

Damn...I'm a weepy old bitty, eh?

Whenever I hear MLK's Mountiantop speech. Greatest oratory in recorded history.

The older I get the weirder I get about seeing animals hurting. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense as I know there isn't much in the tank for humans hurting but animals seem to get to me more and more. Weird.

I think the reason I don't cry over animals being hurt is because then I'd have to stop eating meat (and I LOVE meat). How can I cry over dogs and cats being abused yet then eat a cow or pig? Why is a lion's death more tragic than a chicken's? I know the animals I eat aren't lovingly rocked in someone's arms until they die a peaceful, natural death.
I do understand how people are devastated by the loss of a pet they've become attached to, but I personally can't be sad about random animals I've never "met". That's just my own opinion.
