I saw this, Nottie. What an awful story!
I know the body was found because a neighbor called the police and said the woman had been her baby for a long time, but I'm sure no one realized it had been that long. That poor, poor baby.
And the Dad must be beside himself! They had just been in court discussing custody because of her mental illness issues. I can not even imagine how he must feel right now, knowing what happened.
The judge had awarded her primary custody in spite of some very recent episodes of instability. I worry that this will have long-term repercussions for parents with mental illness who are in good shape. Judges across the country will see this case and might think, "I don't want to be THAT guy," and award custody with a hand towards keeping kids away from parents who are stable and have no history of dangerous or inappropriate behavior.
I feel so sorry for everyone involved in this case.
