Yeah, good thing I'm a casual collector now. At the time I felt like asking someone "excuse me, could you punch me in the face, please?". I couldn't have felt worse. LOL.SERIOUSLY?! I just donated my original PB copy about a year ago! Someone got lucky--lol.
It made the circuit from Alabama to Washington! Bon fortuna, my friend!Yea, ME!!!!!
I collect Steinbeck and the prices for his don't come close to King's, unless Steinbeck has signed them of course. I've picked up almost all of Steinbeck's novels in hardback and East Of Eden was the most expensive (and that one I got at a very good price). Most of them I paid right around $20 for! It's an amazement to me how valuable Stephen King's early books are. There is no other contemporary, genre author who is as collectable. I shouldn't be amazed I suppose, because he's brilliant, and my favorite author. I am though, because there are a handful of gifted writers who are his peers that are in all fairness as talented in their fashion, but their stuff goes for half pennies to SK's ten dollars as collectables.
(Wow that was a long sentence and probably a grammatical nightmare... oh well.)
We priced a first edition Vonnegut, Galapagos in acceptable condition at 20 bucks. We got in a set of the first three Dark Tower Books, third printing and we priced them at over 200. Uncle Steve is no small balla no mo.I collect Steinbeck and the prices for his don't come close to King's, unless Steinbeck has signed them of course. ooops - I am such a dunce - I forgot you were from England! Most of my books are the UK versions, being from the England means the USA versions are harder to come by. I have a few books with that simplified cover style, I don't really like them - I prefer the ones like my battered version of IT.
If you see any first editions of Carson McCullers would you let me know? Unless, of course, you liked them. I did run across a paperback of what I think was his first book, but didn't get it as I didn't know if you had it or not. Sorry. If you see any first editions of Carson McCullers would you let me know? Unless, of course, you liked them. Thanks.
Oh, that's ok, thanks for the heads up! I'm actually looking for first edition hardcovers. I think her first novel was published 1940. I can't be for sure right now. I do have all her books in paperback, though. Thanks again.I did run across a paperback of what I think was his first book, but didn't get it as I didn't know if you had it or not. Sorry.
I like the characters from Fear Nothing. I need to read the sequel. Great finds.Just got home a few hours ago from a weekend trip to Seattle to see family and do some book shopping. Here's what I found:

Found the copy of Belinda at Half Price Books for the crazy price of $3.99! The other five I found at Value Village- each was $2.99 but they had a sale of Buy 4 Get 1 Free! The Erik Larson book is signed (I've never read any of Larson's books, but this one sounds intriguing) as is the copy of Olympos by Dan Simmons. The copy of The Road is a 10th printing- let me tell you that my heart skipped a beat when I saw it as I know that a 1st printing of this book goes for at least $100!
I love the characters and the story line. I just wish that Koontz would get off of his lazy butt and write the ending sequel to those two books!!!!!! It's not nice of him to keep us all hanging for all of these years- we need CLOSURE!!!!I like the characters from Fear Nothing. I need to read the sequel. Great finds.
I hear that a lot from Koontz fans. Maybe that's why I'm holding off for book two because he keeps postponing the third, lol.I love the characters and the story line.
