Blaze excerpt now available

Dear Constant Readers,

I have found a novel by the late Richard Bachman written in 1972/73, that I thought was lost. I found it—or rather, Ms. Mod found it—and I am hoping to publish it in 2007, with royalties going to The Haven Foundation. To whet your appetite, here are the first two chapters.

A message from Stephen regarding Meg Gardiner

Posted: December 12th, 2006 3:54:59 pm

For the last couple of years, I’ve from time to time mentioned the books I was reading (or the music I was listening to, or the movies I’ve been seeing). In the case of Meg Gardiner, a little more is necessary, because her five novels are, simply put, the finest crime-suspense series I’ve come across in the last twenty years (Continued) > Read the entire message

Information regarding Blaze

Posted: November 28th, 2006 3:53:22 pm

Many of you have been asking for more information about publication of Blaze following Steve's mention of it on his recent Lisey's Story book tour. This is another Bachman novel which he recently rediscovered. The original manuscript of Blaze was 173 pages long and was written in 1973. He has rewritten the first 100 pages. A lot of it needed editing to make it more timely since the 1973 references no longer worked. He's hoping to get it done by the end of the year. No publication deal has been signed, but he's sure there will be one.

The Green Mile - Limited Edition

Posted: October 28th, 2006 3:49:15 pm

Steve has just allowed us to announce something special regarding our limited edition of THE GREEN MILE. I apologize if this is the wrong place for the info, but I figured if there was a motivated group of readers anywhere who'd want to know, it'd be here.

***

Ten years ago, Stephen King introduced the world to the men who walked The Green Mile, to Eduard Delacroix, Arlen Bitterbuck, William Wharton, and the gentle, tragic, John Coffey. Now King invites you to walk The Mile with them.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary edition of The Green Mile from Subterranean Press, everyone who orders the commemorative multi-volume set (any version) direct from Subterranean will find their names included in a special section included at the end of Volume Six -- "Those Who Walked the Green Mile" -- that lists all those who met their end seated in Ol' Sparky.

This is an unprecedented, perhaps once-in-a-lifetime chance to have your name included in a Stephen King book, just one more reason to treasure this masterpiece, newly illustrated by Mark Geyer.

If you've already ordered this special edition, you're already on the list. But there's always room on The Mile for one more set of feet.

So come take a walk with Stephen King, and place your preorder for the Gift Edition. You'll go down in history...and live to tell the tale.

Dear Web Site Visitors,

Those of you who are familiar with the wonderful world of television may have noticed that Desperation — probably the best TV movie to be made from my work — has been scheduled by ABC to run, not just against American Idol, but against the American Idol finals! When I see this kind of scheduling, my heart is warmed by how well I have been treated by all my friends at ABC. One can truly say that with friends like this, one doesn’t need enemas. Little joke there. But am I bitter? HELL, YES, I AM BITTER! Oh, well, good work always finds a place in time, and ours may be in the DVD racks eventually. For now, please remember that Desperation airs on ABC May 23rd. Those of you who watch will get a gold star. Those of you who don’t, and watch American Idol instead…well, just remember: I have strange powers. I have been watching you all for some time through your computers. (This is actually a power conferred upon me by the Bush Administration.) I watch you when you eat, I watch you when you sleep, and I watch you when you undress. In regard to this last comment, some of you need more stylish underwear, but never mind; the point is, I will know if you watch American Idol and if something bad happens to you, it will be your own fault.

Cordially,

Steve

Regarding Cell...

CELL SPOILER: "Based on the information given in the final third of Cell—I’m thinking about the reversion back toward the norm of the later phone crazies—it seems pretty obvious to me that things turned out well for Clay’s son, Johnny. I don’t need to tell you this, do I?”

STATIONARY BIKE - Audiobook to be read by Ron McLarty

Posted: March 8th, 2006 3:35:02 pm

Simon & Schuster Audio will be releasing the unabridged audiobook on CD and for download in June 2006.

Stephen King brilliantly revisits themes his fans will happily recognize in STATIONARY BIKE-a streamlined fever dream of a tale, in which an ordinary household object assumes otherworldly powers and a familiar journey takes a terrifying twist.

When commercial artist Richard Sifkitz finally gets around to having that physical he'd been putting off for years, and his cholesterol comes back dangerously high, he does what so many thirty-something, junkfood-eating couch potatoes have done before him: he buys a stationary bike, and vows to ride it regularly.

Unlike many a mid-life exercise convert, however, Richard actually starts to ride his new stationary bike. A lot. Soon he's spending so much time on his bike that he decides to put his artistic talents to use and paint a mural on the wall opposite his stationary bike - a picture of a quiet country lane that he can easily imagine himself pedaling down for hours at a time. Yet it turns out that Richard's mural is no ordinary picture - and soon his stationary bike is taking him places he doesn't want to go ... and can't stay away from.

A riveting riff on artistic frustration, midlife mortality, and hard-won redemption, STATIONARY BIKE is a thrill ride that could come only from the mind of Stephen King. And Narrator Ron McLarty, bestselling author of THE MEMORY OF RUNNING: A Novel, knows his King: he's previously read FAITHFUL:
Two Diehard Boston Red Sox Fans Chronicle the Historic 2004 Season and the classic, SALEM'S LOT.

STATIONARY BIKE will be available in June 2006 for the first time on audio and as a stand-alone story. It was originally published in the fifth installment of the Borderlands series of horror anthologies, edited by Elizabeth E. and Thomas F. Moneteleone.
