Crap, I forgot it was October, now I'm two days behind. :(

I probably won't rack up that many, busy making a movie of my own *cough*, but here goes.

1) In The Mouth of Madness

More goodness from JC-Hammer (my new nickname for John Carpenter). Not as good as The Thing (I intend to marry that movie), but still really good. Even though I think this was a somewhat inferior movie (as is every movie), it scared me waaaay more than The Thing. The sh*t with the bicycle rider, I mean, damn. There were some killer jump scares. Some cheesy stuff as well which took away from it a bit, but still an awesome movie.

Memorable quote: "Did I ever tell you my favourite colour was blue ?"

Okay, what the hell, re-watched Kubrick's Shining last night, most of it anyway, so we'll call that my #1.

What struck me most this time around was how much I empathized with Jack; God, one week snowed-in with Shelly Duvall and that creepy finger talkin kid (and no booze), and you bet I'd chase em down with an axe. And the score just doesn't stop...it builds and builds and twists and shrieks at you THE WHOLE TIME.

But it's a Jack and Scatman show, like Cukoo's Nest. Friggy-Diggy.

This is a fun post.I usually try and read/watch horror in Oct.It is so hard to find a good horror movie anymore.I look forward to getting some suggestions from here.

1) As Above,So Below- I thought it was pretty interesting and it kept my attention but wouldn't say it was scary.
2) The Possession of Michael King- Pretty standard possession movie BUT there were a couple of scenes that caught me and I jumped. But those were run of the mill scares ( sudden loud music, screaming, ect)

2. Our Mother's House (FTV)
Seven children in a single-parent household don't want to become orphans when their ailing mother dies, so they bury her in the garden and act as if nothing has happened. With a forged signature they continue cashing assistance checks, and each night they "talk to mother" in the dark clubhouse chapel they've built over the burial site. This is moody, creepy stuff, particularly when the children start to dispense their own brand of justice on each other, Lord of the Flies style. When the deadbeat dad reappears and figures out what's been going on, rather than come clean he continues the ruse, and then things really start to get interesting. As a horror film, there isn't much to be scared of here, but this is one of the better entries in the creepy children genre, as it's never exploitative--the children are presented as sympathetic characters who just want to be left alone in their own little world.

4 out of 5 stars.

3. The House of Seven Corpses. And there was almost eight. I just about did myself in because of the boredom. The only thing of note with this was that the aging "star" of the movie within the movie was linked to Howard Huges -- but so was everyone else in the free world. First time I saw this one.

1 out of 5 stars. And that's generous.
