2. The Dead Zone.

it tells its story so strongly through the lives of sympathetic, believable people that we not only forgive the gimmicks, we accept them.

1.) Gerald's Game

I thought Carla Gugino was very good. Am glad I reread the book within the last six months or so. The two small changes that I appreciated in the movie...
that Jessie wrote the letter at the end to herself instead of her college roommate and that she started the foundation for other victims.

I cheated a little bit. I saw this on Sept 30. It was raining and I was bored, so I started a little early.

1. Split (2016) James McAvoy

Three girls are abducted by a man with multiple personality disorder and have to deal with all of the different personalities as they try to figure out how to escape. This is like the horror version of TV show, The United States Of Tara. James McAvoy does an awesome job being all of the different personalities. 7/10

Got things started late last night!

1. The Addams Family (1991)
They're creepy and they're kooky! Well, not particularly creepy but they are pretty fun. Yes, the jokes are a little cheesy, the plot is paper-thin, but the idea here is we already know and love the Addams family and just want to spend 90 minutes with them. Excellent casting with Raul Julia clearly relishing the Gomez role, Anjelica Huston is perfect as Morticia, and a young Christina Ricci gets some of the best lines as Wednesday. Christopher Lloyd seems a bit too twitchy and uneven in the role of Uncle Fester, it's hard to get a read on his emotions (my daughter asked if he was happy or angry at various points). Forgettable, fluffy, but undeniably fun.

3.5 out of 5 stars.

2017 Scurry movie marathon
1) Village of the Damned (1995)-Carpenter's remake. I liked it pretty well (FTV)
2) Lights Out (2016)-Nifty little horror movie. This is the second time I've watched this one, and I liked it just as well as the first time.

2.) Demonic (2015/2017 U.S.)

A tad formulaic - would've probably turned it off in the first 15 minutes, but then saw Maria Bello. She was the highlight of this movie. Usual cast of characters. Young group of enthusiasts going into something they should've been too smart to consider. The token blond girl, guy with bangs, guy with spiky hair and a not-quite-beautiful, but pretty girl next door type. A few twists and turns at the end, but not surprising.

It's Spook-tacular Horror Movie Marathon time!!!

1) Stir of Echoes (1999) - Blue-collar family man Tom Witzky (Kevin Bacon) scoffs at supernatural phenomena -- until he lets his wife's sister, Lisa (Illeana Douglas), put him into a hypnotic trance. Upon waking, Tom realizes he has a psychic connection with his son, Jake (Zachary David Cope). He also has alarming hallucinations of a missing teenage neighbor named Samantha (Jennifer Morrison). Tom, convinced his visions will lead him to the girl, begins a desperate search that puts him into a life-threatening situation. - Not a first time, but it was in my On Demand Horror section and I like the movie. Some parts are better than others, so... 3.5/5 stars

6. The Good Neighbor -- New

"A pair of mischievous high school kids create the illusion of a haunting on an unsuspecting neighbor. While keeping his every reaction under surveillance, they see much more than they bargained for."

This is on my list because of the horrors of technology. The loss of privacy. The total moral breakdown of children today. All of this is beyond scary.

James Caan is his usual curmudgeonly self in this entry, but there is much more to him. Tragic, sad and again, scary what technology and the people using it justify.

1931 Dracula last night on TCM. parts of this movie are like watching paint dry, but the scenes with Renfield are so good it makes up for the boring parts. Started watching the follow up Daughter of Dracula but got too sleepy so I DVR'd the rest. I've actually never seen this movie. What I did see I liked. Watched the original Wolfman on Svengoolie Friday night. I love this movie. What a cast!
