...he's fortunate he wasn't shredded....poor critter just got confused which body it was swooping in on....

I used to follow and Eagles nest, and the hatching of the babies. Gosh, they can be so brutal, and yet so gentle and kind while feeding them. The things they brought to the nest. I can't even tell ya how hard it was to watch at times.

Tim Tebow was moved up in the Mets farm system this week to the Eastern League’s Double-A Rumble Ponies in Binghamton, NY. The Mets are buying the Syracuse Chiefs to be their Triple-A team starting in 2019. Hope Tebow moves up to Triple-A next year so I can see him play against our LV Iron Pigs. Saw him at a NY Jets preseason game. Would like to see him play baseball.

Basebrawl at Fenway last night!

Not sure why Tyler Austin was so surprised he got plonked. His BS, spikes up, karate kicking slide into Brock Holt at second earlier in the game was the trigger of it. Similar type of play from Manny Machado was the cause of Dustin Pedroia's knee injury last year. That resulted in Pedroia needing surgery and missing the start of this season. Austin should have just taken his base and that would have been the end of it. Instead he slams his bat down, throws a tantrum, and charges the mound. Benches cleared. Then CC Sabathia, who's on the DL, decides to come off the bench and start throwing punches in the melee. Suspension should be upcoming for him. It's a no-no to leave the bench if you are on the DL.

Interesting to see the Yankee's Judge and Stanton protecting the Sox Joe Kelly, the guy who drilled their teammate, in the scrum. That leads me to believe that the Yankees knew Austin's cleats up slide into Brock Holt was intentional.

Tonight's game should be interesting. I fully expect the Yankees to drill someone on the Sox.

"Unwritten rules" of the game.

You spike someone, you're gonna get drilled. Nothing wrong with protecting your teammates.

Well now see - I've been a second baseman (softball) all during my childhood. Probably over 10 years. Our catcher could fire a ball into my outstretched glove to catch anyone trying to steal second. ouch.

These pitchers were wicked good and sometimes scary. I was a bunter and runner.

Then in an adult team. We never had the need to fight with the other team or 'unwritten rules' Sportsmanship.

There are some unwritten rules that will almost guarantee a beam-ball and some that might garner one. When a pitcher obviously hits a batter. When you run up the score or steal bases in a blowout. When you steal third base with two outs. When you bunt during a no-hitter. Sliding meant to take out the defensive player. And when you show-off. It’s part of what makes the game exciting in the pros.

One of my favorite scenes from Field Of Dreams...

[After the pitcher nearly knocked Archie Graham off the plate.]
Gandil: Hey Knuckles, what'd you throw at the kid for?
Cicotte: He-he winked at me.
Gandil: Don't wink, kid.
[The pitcher throws another ball at Graham's head.]
Graham: Hey ump, how about a warning?
Umpire: Sure. Watch out you don't get killed.

Shoeless Joe Jackson: The last two have been high and tight, so where do you think the next one's gonna be?
Archie Graham: Well, either low and away... or in my ear.
Shoeless Joe: He's not gonna want to load the bases, so look for low and away. But watch out for in your ear.

I've played as an adult and I can tell you if someone intentionally spiked me on a slide they're going to get a shove at a minimum and most likely a straight right to the face................

I never spiked anyone. Good throws and good low catches. Tagged them.
With my blue glove that I treasured, oiled and wrapped with a ball in it, with a rubber band off season.

By "spike" I mean a baserunner sliding into a defensive player with the spikes on their shoes up to intentionally strike the defensive player.
