Picked the Alien and Parker up in a charity shop and the face hugger was a freebie from a journalist friend.

Here is a pic of my collectibles cabinet. Not sure if you can make everything out but it's like 30 years worth of stuff I've found to be cool and interesting. My Funko Pops aren't in there as there isn't enough room. The new pieces are Blade, Nosferatu, and Alex DeLarge. The back is mirrored so the reflections you are seeing are of some of my collected artwork. Yes, I'm very geeky.

Anyways time to do an in depth review of all three LEGO sets I bought on Friday.

So when I initially planned to go to the LEGO store, I was only planning on buying one specific set, but the want to get into Legos again made me have to get the flintsones set as well. But I initially wanted to go to the LEGO store because I saw on Reddit that LEGO was releasing an official Steamboat Willie set, and as an old cartoon enthusiast, I knew as soon as I heard about it that I had to get the set.

FIRST SET: LEGO IDEAS SET #26: MICKEY MOUSE STEAMBOAT WILLIE

This is just a fantastic set in general, the actual Steamboat was fun to build, it came with a lot of interesting pieces, notably a piece of sheet music for the song used in the original cartoon. It comes with both a Mickey and Minnie Mouse minifigures.

Not only that but I love how the entire exterior of the set is all in black and white. But not just was it fun to build. You can play with it too! The boat has wheels under it and whenever you took it along a flat surface the steam chimneys go up and down and the steam cigs turn like it does in the actual cartoon. The set also includes a lever that lets you cast in an out then fishing line. I rewatched Steamboat Willie just to see how accurate the set was. And it does a pretty good job. The only thing that’s missing is the Steamboat captain.

Some other neat details about the set; Like I said before: this set came with a lot of cool printed pieces all in black and white (including but no limited to: a guitar, a box of potatos, a parrot) and I love how they made it so the chimneys go up and down like in the original cartoon. It also builds a Mickey Mouse backdrop to display your minifigures against.

Overall I think this is a fantastic set, it was fun to build, it’s fun to play with, and I was not disappointed at by all. It is a rather pricey set however, costing around $80 USD, so that may turn some people off from buying it. LEGO sets tend to be rather expensive in general. But still, absolutely fantastic set, I think it’s worth $80 if you’re fine with splurging that much money

FINAL VERDICT: 8.5/10, worthwhile set but it’s cost may turn some people off

Very nice. I love the devotion to detail of Steamboat Willie.

I am considering ordering the LEGO voltron set off amazon the only problem being it costs $180 USD and a I have probably spent my money dry recently. The individual lions are incredibly well designed and I love that it functions like the old Voltron toys of the ‘80’s

The recent Stranger Things set they released looks cool as hell, even though I’ve never watched the show the actual set is well designed and I would buy it alone purely for the fact that it comes with Dungeons and Dragons themed bricks, and I myself am quite into D&D.

From the ages of 5-11 I was really into the idea of collecting old transformer toys, I did not actually have the funding and I wasn’t able to get any of the actual toys, but I researched them and knew a lot about their history regardless. My dad took me to a couple toy shows, and at the time I felt honored to just be able to look at some of the the toys I dreamed of owning, even though they were too expensive to actually buy for myself. Ah well, that phase is behind me although the idea of collecting toys still interests me.

I still own quite a few of what transformers sets I could afford from the time I was really into them, but sadly a lot of the sets my parents sold not thinking I would feel nostalgic over it. But out of the few transformers I was able to save, a lot of them are broken or have missing pieces. I know a lot of them were probably given to my brother and they might be sitting in his closet.

With me getting back into the idea of collecting Legos, I still own all the instruction booklets from all the sets Ive amassed over the years, problem is when the sets were knew I would take them apart to build other things, but I still kept my pieces organized in case I wanted to put the set back together, the problem is my mom didn’t see that and she took all my Legos and put them into one big bin, so now it’s impossible for me to rebuild any of my old sets because it’s just too hard for me to find the pieces, especially when very specific ones are needed, I asked her not to do that but she didn’t listen to me, not to mention the fact she sold a lot of my favorite childhood video games at a garage sale without even asking me first. I legit remember waking up one morning only to find half of my video games were missing because she sold them all.

It legit pisses me off that she did this multiple times to the toys that raised me and that I’m very emotionally attached too. Just because the phase is behind me doesn’t mean I’m not allowed to still want to keep the toys around. So many toys that I’m very emotionally attached to are gone because my mother can’t comprehend asking me permission first before she makes the desicion herself on what to do with my stuff. She sold my transformers and video games, dumped all my LEGO pieces into one bin so I can’t find them. I don’t know why she thinks she has the right to do this to my stuff. Oh well, I’m just ranting at this point, but I miss my old stuff.

At least my dad can emphasize with me about my mom getting rid of large quantities of my old stuff, his office is really cool to look at because he has all his old LEGO sets and transformers from the 80’s and 90’s back when he was my age. The only difference is that when he was my age he sold a bunch of his stuff by himself without thinking twice about missing it later. He wish he didn’t sell his GI Joes and Atari Game Cartridges but at least he kept his Legos together and salvaged a few of his transformers. He works from home so his work office is decorated with LEGO sets from various decades along with the few transformers he didn’t sell. I’d like to go to a toy fair again just for nostalgia related purposes. I get very emotionally attached to material possessions easily, I think that can be said about a lot of us.

It’s not like my mother doesn’t collect stuff herself, she has been collection those Precious Moments porcelain figurine since the late 90’s and she’s amassed a sizeable amount of them that line our living room shelves. Besides that she also collects children’s picture books and Winnie the Pooh related merchandise, I think her children’s picture book collection is rather cool, she’s got some unique finds in there including some first edition Doctor Suess’s and other famous children’s authors.

Like I previously mentioned, she is a huge fan of Winnie the Pooh and recently collected all the plushies that were inspired by that recent Chrtostopher Robin film with the CG stuffed animals.

Wayoftheredpanda I'm sorry your toys were tossed/sold. I had a few that disappeared from my Mom's house years ago. They probably went to my niece but since her Dad (my step-brother) throws things away instead of saving or even giving away, I know I'll never see them again.

Our daughter's old toys are in the basement. There's a bin full of Littlest Pet Shop stuff, Legos, a racetrack, lots of Beanie Babies..... haven't gone through it but I bet I could ebay a lot of it ;)

There is a very specific few LEGO sets from the early 2010’s that I would like to have again but they stopped manufacturing nearly a decade ago, Ive seen boxes copies on EBay. The problem is the sellers want hundreds of dollars for a set that cost $15-$20 when they were first released
