I won't be doing the Alice in Wonderland cake after all. I don't know exactly what happened, my MIL called to tell me we (I don't know where the "we" part came in, haha) weren't going to mess with it. She called from work so only had a minute and I haven't had a chance to find out exactly what went down but kind of sounded like the bride had a little bridezilla thing going on. Don't know if it was over my ideas or suggestions about not having red and black frosting or something else entirely. I would think anyone would have had the same suggestions about those colors but I would have done it how she wanted...it's her cake after all. Whatever happened, had to be pretty serious for my MIL to just wash her hands of it! And to wash my hands of it for me!
Darn it! make it anyway - I want to see what you come up with - all suggestions have been so cool. I think I want an Alice in Wonderland cake for my birthday!

I am not very disappointed that I won't be doing it, to tell the truth. :) I only said yes because my MIL asked me to do it in the first place. It is the bride's loss! She would have gotten one heck of a cake for $50. That would have just covered ingredients, so my time, the 75 mile drive to get it to her and everything was going to cost her nothing. I have a feeling that once I said yes, she thought she could take advantage and wanted me to do more than I could do for $50 and that was the problem, in which case I am really thankful my MIL spoke up. I am not willing to go into the hole on a cake for someone I don't even know.

Oh Cat :( You've been planning this cake for a week now:( I hope your MIL calls again during lunch and gives you an explanation. I hope she's careful when she says "we". I hate it when someone tells another what "we" think. I hope the bride to be doesn't think you decided you don't want to mess with the cake.

I had been planning for almost 3 weeks. I hadn't bought anything yet, though, so am glad about that. I am not too worried about what the bride thinks, my MIL had a good reason or she wouldn't have put a stop to it. She doesn't suffer fools!;):D

Tell her it was my recipe and that I guaranteed that people would be talking about that cake for years to come!!
That would definitely guarantee no one EVER asking me to make a cake again! ;-D

I only ever started doing them for my kids, because my mom always made us special cakes for our birthdays. But then it was cakes for nephews and nieces and baby showers and and and...which I still didn't mind because it was for family. But, while I truly appreciate family members suggesting me to other people for events, I just don't want to be making and decorating cakes all the time. I even turned down a local party supply store, they wanted my name and number to pass out to customers after they saw one of my cakes in a picture. I said thank you but no thanks. I do appreciate the thought and probably could make a little $$$, I just don't want to.
