I went grocery shopping today. Supermarkets tell us to go early easter grocery shopping this year. We mostly do not wear mask or gloves and sometimes it's really tough to keep the distance but all including me were really friendly and nice and I waited to let others pass. The shopping cards were cleaned after each use so there is that.

Is there no way to prove where you are living in the US. I know that not everyone has a passport?
I may be wrong but very few American's have passports. Another thing, say I'm coming from New Jersey to visit my sick friend in Pennsylvania, where I also grew up. Am I going to get denied access by State Troopers? Plus, it would be a MAJOR ignoring of the US constitution.

...........state troopers need to assemble and put a screeching halt to all that
Nope. PA citizens are being pulled over by troopers and being issued citations of $100 & $200 for violating the stay at home governor's order if they don't have a valid reason to be out on the roads, or a letter from an employer stating they work for a life-sustaining business, but cars from NJ and NY aren't being bothered with at all. That is also what is getting people here all riled up. (I do so wish I could use a couple of those choice words that would get me in trouble here. ;):))

It may just be me, but I notice that Americans outwidth New York and California seem to harbour some resentment towards these states? Am I wrong? It wouldn't be unfathomable though, most places in England despise the south.

Easier said than done. What are they going to do? Ask people to bring out address books to check what state they are from?
It's easy over here. Every state has their own distinctive vehicle license plates. In PA there is only a plate on the rear of the car. NY & NY have plates in both the front and rear. That's why they're called 'front platers.'

Some states are stopping and turning around anyone from out of state coming in by car without an approved reason. Not so in PA... COME ONE, COME ALL... GIVE US YOUR GERMS!

But what about scenarios like this.
I stay in New Jersey but I grew up in Pennsylvania and all of my family is there, I want to check on them during this crisis, am I not allowed to enter the state?
Varies from state to state which is a part of the problem. As it stands now, once I eventually get back to Maine, I will be required to self-quarantine at home for two weeks. At the end of that time, if I wanted to go visit my daughter and family in Massachusetts, I could go there but I'd be required to self-quarantine with them for two weeks. Upon my return to Maine, I'd be required to self-quarantine another 2 weeks. FaceTiming, texting, and calling is a lot more practical for now.

You could try, but I'd bet that Scottish/English accent would kinda blow your cover. And have you ever heard a foreigner try doing a Jersey accent? It's not pretty. :)
