I did mention to his agent that I was finished with #5 so if he could let him know I'd like to keep reading, so when would #6 be out. He just laughed at me. A similar request coming from Steve might carry a little more weight, though. ;-D

If Steve is smart he starts all such requests with "Marsha asked" because we all know who rules. :D

What did you think of what happened to Jon Snow, Ms. Mod?
I'm wondering if that was the same thing that had everybody shocked at the end of season 5.

When I was reading the book I had just been thinking to myself that I was amazed that he'd made it through all 5 books since George R.R. Martin kills off the characters you like and then HE DID IT!!! After I gasped when I read that passage, I couldn't help but chuckle and tell myself "you knew nothing, Marsha".

He got you good then................:applause:

About season 5........

It was mostly what happened to Jon Snow, but there is another MAJOR surprise (or two;)) in the last TV episode that differs hugely from the book

So you better get cracking and start binging..........:loyal:

Game of Thrones: George R.R. Martin Confirms Season 6 Will Be Released Before the Next Book

George R.R. Martin dealt a heavy blow to Game of Thrones book fans when he announced via his blog on Saturday that he would not be finishing Winds of Winter before Season 6 premieres this spring.

Winds of Winter, the next book in the A Song of Ice and Fire series upon which the HBO drama is based, holds key answers like whether Jon Snow (Kit Harington) died at the hands of the Night's Watch or how Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) fared with the Dothraki.

"The Winds of Winter is not finished," Martin wrote. "Believe me, it gave me no pleasure to type those words. You're disappointed, and you're not alone. My editors and publishers are disappointed, HBO is disappointed, my agents and foreign publishers and translators are disappointed... but no one could possibly be more disappointed than me."

Martin says he's not sure when the sixth book will be completed, just that "It will be done when it's done." However, the note suggests that though the book won't be out before Season 6 debuts, that doesn't mean the series will contain book spoilers.

"I can't think of any other instance where the movie or TV show came out as the source material was still being written. So when you ask me, 'Will the show spoil the books?,' all I can do is say, 'yes and no,' and mumble once again about the butterfly effect," Martin says. "Those pretty little butterflies have grown into mighty dragons. Some of the 'spoilers' you may encounter in Season 6 may not be spoilers at all... because the show and the books have diverged, and will continue to do so."

There had been hope when HBO's spring and winter dates were announced that Game of Thrones being delayed a few weeks later than normal meant the network was stalling for Martin to have the book released ahead of the season. That could have been the case if Martin had met his October or December 2015 deadlines, but he missed both of them.

I'm rewatching the entire series. Hopefully get through the last few today.

What is Jon Snow's sword made of? Put answer in spoilers if you feel it warrants it.

i just watched the episode where Jon takes the boats to convince the Wildlings to come south of the wall. When he goes into the hut to get the obsidian, he fights off a white-walker (leader?) with his sword. Everything else he used shatters when the white walker's weapon touches it. But his own sword doesn't, and it surprises both of them. Then he kills the walker with it.

Okay, I'm almost done with the first book. Also just finished season 6. A few observations:

1. George is just an okay writer. He creates some memorable characters and places but his syntax is sometimes weird. He's obsessive about clothing and armor. He gets bogged down in details often to the point of nearly becoming boring. But he's got a solid foundation in the main plot and successfully threads the subplots into it.

2. Martin played a lot of D&D. Some of the creatures are right out of an AD&D Monster Manual. The items, armor, swords and battles feel very much like campaigns. All we need is a bunch of dice. :encouragement:

3. Tyrion is one of the best characters in any fantasy book, IMO. Ever.
