You'll do fine, Shasta! You got this! Own it, girl! Thanks, Scott. I've been super nervous feeling since I found out about the in-person interview, which is not a common feeling for me. I really appreciate the supportive words!

Ballard is a great area! There's a huge skandanavian(sp) population there, or at least there was a while ago. It's become more gentrified over the years. You should go check out the Ballard locks- it's always fun to watch the boats come up the channel into the lock. I wish I still lived over there so I could be a tour guide. Be sure to check out the Goodwill on Dearborn! It's the largest Goodwill on the west coast, no fooling! Book section is HUGE! You also have to try Pagliacci Pizza- I'm sure they have vegetarian pizza- they have such good crust! Check out the Capitol Hill area too- lots of shops and restaurants and the 'vibe' is cool (it's the 'gay' section of Seattle)! Be sure to find the troll under the fremont bridge! Thanks, everyone! You guys are SO sweet!
I'm more nervous about the decision I then have to make if I get than I am of the interview.
But I just got my travel info and I have TONS of time around my interview to look around so I'll be doing some exploring. Hubby's not going to go so it's up to me to scout it out and get all of the good info!
I actually read about an area named Ballard that seems really good for us. Anyone have any thoughts?

No zoos for me.....Seattle also boasts one of the best zoo's in the country.

Oh yeppers! That is why I live in Spokane- half (or less) of what you'd pay in Seattle. Folks over that-a-way are still paying for the Kingdome and it was destroyed years ago! have you thought about living more on the outskirts of the Seattle area? Maybe north in Everett? I used to live there and Pats lives there now and the prices might be alittle more cheaper. So, I've been looking at housing prices in Seattle. They are SOOOOOOO much more expensive than Portland!!!!

Yes, the metro buses run almost everywhere in the outer (and inner) Seattle areas and they have already started to put in a light rail system that is supposed to reach pretty much all of the outlying areas eventually (I think right now it goes from south past the airport into Seattle). Not that hard to get around. As for being 'commutable', rush hour traffic starts at 5 am and last till about 7pm during the weekdays. There are carpool lanes where there is a seperate lane on the freeways just for vehicles that have two or more folks in them. Ask the company that you're interviewing with if they supplement either parking costs or bus passes. Or if they have flexable work schedules, like letting you come in at 6am to avoid the traffic. Some companies do. The traffic was one of the major reasons for my leaving a city that I lived in for over 30 years. I lived 13 miles from work and somedays it took me over an hour to get home. But, if you're into riding the bus to get around it shouldn't be too bad.Nope! That's what I need you guys for - to tell me! Is it commutable?
Ahhh, but we do have earthquakes in Seattle, I was there for the last two big ones. Not fun!Not knowing much about the area, I would like to point out the obvious....moving out of LA means further away from earthquakes and sliding off into the ocean. Plus, probably less crazy. BUT....moving closer to a volcano.....
Actually, I have a friend who is close to Seattle and they love it there. I'm sure you will love it and good luck on the interview, I hope you do great as I believe you will.

Are you talking about Mercer Island?I was going to say that too! Apparently (just like So Cal!) they are overdue for a big one again.
Being the disaster prepared girl I am, I'm also a little concerned about being trapped on what's essentially an island!
No, Seattle. It's a big peninsula. Are you talking about Mercer Island?
