From the good ol Midwest
I am just saying negative 25 windchill is crazy.

I hear ya! We've gone from -8 to -3. When I took the kids to school our windchill was -19. Brr! Saying prayers of safety for those in the UK. may the rain/flooding stop soon. Also, prayers being said for those in the south who are preparing for the ice storm. May you all be safe and not lose power. And for all who are frozen and snow covered.......May this dang winter end soon!!

I once got stranded about 30 minutes in a skilift, in the shade, at -17 C, with wind. I was dressed for snowboarding but damn, never want to experience that again :S

Same thing happened to me many moons ago at the ski resort just up the road where I now live, when I was a part-time ski instructor . It was night, temperatures at the summit of 5 degrees Fahrenheit with 20 mph winds and icy conditions. My luck had me stranded on the lift right were the winds were the strongest. The lift was swaying in the wind and I was up there for almost an hour. When we finally got off, people had to be treated for frostbite and hypothermia. Luckily I was dressed appropriately and just needed to warm up. A girl fell getting off the lift and hit her head hard on the ice, was bleeding out of her ears, and had to be transported by medevac to a trauma center.

Hells bells, did you see on the news this morning Anthea, about the River Thames flooding?
Yes, I did! I live further inland and, thankfully, not by a river. I feel very sorry for the people who have had to move treasured possessions upstairs and then leave their homes for their own safety. It has been very bad on the west coast in Devon and Cornwall - very high waves battering the seafronts.

I have a stream at the end of my garden and it's now a river.... if we get through this weekend without the river Uck flooding, or getting flooded by the stream at bottom of garden I shall be mightly grateful!!!!
