Whoa! Yes, that's scary! Kids don't get learner's permits until 15 1/2 here, then have to complete a driver's ed course as a high school elective or at an outside facility that includes X hours of behind the wheel training before getting their driver's license. Good luck to both of you!!
I'm having him take driver's ed but it's not available until his junior year here, and he'll just be a sophmore next year. 14 years old just seems awfully young to be driving now that I'm....old.....it didn't so young when I started driving at 14, I couldn't wait to get on the road.

Of course! We were way much older at 14!! (I'm pretty sure we're close to the same age.;))

He has the look mastered DJ, not even joking. It might as well be painted across his forehead. Kid has a 99.8% grade in Algebra II as a freshman in high school but if you ask him to put the clothes in the dryer? Vapor Lock look in 3...2...1......"That's the one that dries them, right? Not the one that washes them?"......not even joking, that's a question I was asked last week. I'm sure I displayed my own look of quizzical astonishment at him asking me that. "Yeah, Einstein, the one that dries them not washes them." He just starts laughing and says "I get those confused for some reason."......"It happens." I say like a supportive dad....thinking "No, no it really doesn't happen, not really at all. Is he huffing paint or something?"

So, I'm a little apprehensive of him making sound decisions at 65mph with cars all around us as I try not to have a stroke in the passenger's seat...lol.

Oh yeah, he also forgets to comb his hair sometimes after showering. He's started wearing it longer now. Tamara said it gives him a very "confused but slightly mad scientist look". I couldn't agree more....lol

I just learned last week where the eighths marks were on a ruler/ tape measure. Didn't have a clue. Some dude on a youtube taught me. I sure hope he wasn't d*cking me around.

Will be be able to take a drivers ed course? Just saw your reply above. Set the rules for him, and guide him well. BIG learning curve. Teach him the basic bookwork/ the little tricks one learns over the years of experienced driving. He;s a good kid, lots of guiding to do the right, not the impulse. Holding you in good thoughts!!

Yeah, I didn't even take Algebra II until I was a junior in high school and barely made a B but I did know the difference between the washer and dryer.....sigh.......

It's a right brain/ left brain thing. Signs, picture signs on washer and dryer.

Over the last three months, he's studied the driving book to the point I've stopped quzzing him because he just about quotes anything out of the book back to me verbatim. I'm sure the book part of this test will not be an issue but I've been telling him that the book is just that, the book, and that driving is an applied science, and only learned by experience. But, he's willing and very excited about learning to drive so "MAY THE ODDS BE EVER IN YOUR FAVOR!" I can already see my auto insurance agent rubbing his grubby hands together as I voluntarily triple my premiums....lol

We all learn differently. Some are visual learners, others like to read how to do something.

Obviously the kid is a number guy. Number things. Place a 15 on the washer and a 21 on the dryer. Next time, tell him to put the stuff from 15 in 21 and things will come out minus wet to the tenth degree.

Teaching kids how to drive isn’t awful… It’s much worse than that. Always started out in high school parking lots on weekends. The youngest didn’t want me to teach her how to drive and instead relied on her mother and grandfather. She failed her driving test twice. She had one week to go in the allotted one year to pass her test on her permit and finally asked me for help. I said she's getting a crash course and it will be much different than what she was used to. She took her test on the last day allowed on her permit and passed. Did I get any thanks or credit… Of course not!

LOL. No good deed goes unpunished or appreciated. I've going to teach him on a standard transmission, that's a dying art apparently so I want him to know how to drive one. So I'm really looking forward to trying to explain to a kid who sometimes can't remember if he needs to put the clothes in the washer or dryer how a clutch, gas pedal, and brake interact together....

I learned how to drive on a stick shift. My driving instructor was the principal of my school. After numerous "incidents," he would not allow me to drive in town. My partner drove in town and when we got to the farm areas, I was allowed to drive.

Good morning all.

Been pretty busy. Babysat Sage and Spencer a while on Monday afternoon so Marti could go to her 6 week checkup. 6 weeks already! Then we went and looked around our new Marshalls store. It opened last Friday. Then had a parent meeting at Ali's school, she is participating in track. First meet has already been rescheduled, was supposed to be next Tuesday but there is still too much snow on the track and field. So it is pushed back a week.

Today I have to go renew my drivers license. Keep forgetting to do that. It is good til Sunday. :biggrin-new: And I am going to go buy paint, I think. So we can get going on that room swap we have been planning for 2 years. :hopelessness:

But first, going to take a walk. I am told my thyroid meds are good now, with rotating between 2 doses, every other day. But still gaining weight. I know part of that is, I have quit smoking. Today is day 46. I am using a nicotine patch and will step down to step 3, the final step, tomorrow. I am proud of myself, really did not think I could ever do it. And it is hard, but getting easier. But now this extra weight I have found needs to go. Part of me says look, you are just a squishy grandma. It's ok, you've earned it. But the vain part of me hates it. Because I am not only a squishy grandma.

Anyway, long post. But that is what is happening here. Hope everyone is doing well. Have a great day. Big hugs and positive vibes to all! :love_heart:

congrats on the smoking, stay strong !
i didn't used these nicotine patches.
the first 3 weeks were the hardest part.
