Looking for book title, HELP!

I read a book as a teen that I could have swore was by SK but now I'm not so sure. I want to read it again but can't figure out the title or author.
Here is what I know:
It was about a mountain town where nature is fighting back against the town. It starts quietly but as more odd things happen and people disappear the town becomes aware something is wrong. A tree swallows someone up, the ground also swallows someone up. There is a girl who smokes pot and has a captain kangaroo poster. A guy is sent there to investigate something, don't remember what, and he ends up staying thru the whole novel to figure it out. May have something to do with mining. Any help would be appreciated!

That isn't any S. King I'm familiar with. It doesn't sound like anything I've ever read. I'd like to though. I can't wait until someone figures it out. Somebody will, I have faith in the folks of this message board. Collectively, they know everything.

Can you remember a book by Dean Koontz about a man going to investigate things happening on some mountain area...it was written a long time ago. He found people dead while in the act of eating their supper etc. Some folks obviously went mad and killed others,too. I disremember the name of it though.

...Koontz was the first name that flashed through my gray mush, but all I can recall is Phantoms.....

It is definately not The Taking...I reread that one not long ago....boy, is that ever a good book!

There is a book called Vanished by T.J. McGreggor about folks who vanished and ended up stuck in trees. Nature is fighting back,etc. Dolphins are other creatures are acting strangely.
