Most of my books I have found at Goodwill, garage sales, and ebay...all gently used from smoke and pet free environments ~ I'm sure:angel:!! I have received a few hardbacks new as gifts, which is great but there's just something to be said about bending the spine of a paperback that's just so gratifying to me! I should issue a national warning though...which is, if I find a hardback copy of The Gunslinger, The Drawing of the Three, or The Wastelands...all which are books I need to complete my collection I will throw a massive scream and dancing fit the likes of which will scare/scar young children and the elderly!!

Now I need to go out to my Jeep to check this out - I am pretty sure that I bought a hard copy of The Gunslinger at Value Village last Saturday, but I am not sure if it is a first edition - will have to go take a look!
(I did not know this was hard to come by).

The original HB copies of at least the first two (I lost track after that) would cost an astronomical amount, I think. As I remember (and there are people here who I'm sure can correct me if I'm wrong), they were printed in extremely limited editions. I remember our local bibliophile/bookstore owner had one copy of The Gunslinger that he kept on a high shelf--you had to ask to look at it, and he watched the whole time. I seem to remember it was over $200, and I thought, "Well, there's a Stephen King I'll never read." (For a H.S. senior or recent grad--I misremember the year--more than $200 for a single book was over the moon money). Can't even imagine what it would be worth now, as it was signed.

One of my favorite pastimes is pursuing used bookstores, the book sections in thrift stores and my local library which has it's own used book section. I like the older novels. I also like older hardbacks. In some cases books that are more than fifty years old, but I'm not against new books either. Guess I'm what is known as a bibliophile.

I prefer new books, but I'd buy a second hand one if I couldn't get one new.

Tbh, as long as they're in good condition, I'd have them.
