I think a lot of how you view the book and the end might have to do with your beliefs. Do you believe in an afterlife? And I would also say I think a lot depends on if you have lost someone so close to you, so vital to who you are that it has been hard accepting the death. What am I missing??? I just spent a while reading posts on The Other Side and everyone is talking about how disturbing the ending is. I pretty much laughed at it.
Giant ants have not been scary since the movie Them in the 1950s!!!
People are talking about how devestated they are and can't stop thinking about it. I just don't see it.
But of course I know different things scare/upset/disturb different people and that the difference of opinion is what makes the craft of writing such a fascinating art.
All good points and I do realize all of that, but still...I think a lot of how you view the book and the end might have to do with your beliefs. Do you believe in an afterlife? Stop it! You're cracking me up
The workers may have been ants because they (like humans) have a social structure. An otherworld higher intelligence or deity may not see any difference and treat humans as humans treat ants.
