Also, these two threads are getting a bit blurry -- we might have to do some housecleaning again. I've left Marsha a message on the crossover of comments. Which is completely my shuffling.

I'm trying to keep reviews in the review thread, but then people comment about the review, which really ends up being a "what went wrong" sort of comment and maybe should be in that thread, but then the comments wouldn't make sense if they were separated from the review. blah blah blah --

When Mom gets home, she'll know what to do.

just live dangerously and merge the whole board into one thread. we'll play a rousing game of 'what are we talking about again'?

THat's just craaaazzy talk!

That's how this message board started out years ago. The very first Stephen King message board was one long thread.

It was very confusing and might take a day (if we were lucky and Marsha didn't have other business off the board to attend to) for anything remotely related to your post to come through the scroll. It could take a couple days.

and the board closed every day when Marsha's day was done and was always closed on weekends. So, that means, you could ask a question or comment to someone and you might not see anything come through the one big long scroll for 4 days if you posted it on a Friday. Maybe by Monday afternoon someone would pick up your comment and answer.

Conversations? fuhgeddaboudit!

Except that the audience responses aren't gathered the same way as the critics.... the critical reviews aren't done at Rotten Tomatoes. They are gathered by Rotten Tomatoes and added up from critics all over the places. There is no internal site bias or survey bias involved. The audience rating at Rotten Tomatoes is gathered largely on site and is made up, therefore, by people who frequent that site, and the FAKE people who are there to skew the results. ;) Make no mistake, Hollywood is fully aware now how much effect Rotten Tomatoes has on films and there are versions of "Like" farming for it coming on strong.

Long story short, the critics values and the audience values are gathered in very different ways and thus it problematic to put too much faith in the audience score. The audience score is most reliable when it is a GRAND SLAM or they HATED it, whereas the critics tend to be pretty much reliable because of the Bell Curve. So when I see the audiences is at 90%... I'm all over that action. When I see the audience is 30% or less... won't touch it with a ten foot pole. Anywhere in between is not worth my time.

You're right. I failed to recognize the data collection discrepancies. We can't compare the complete population of critics (N) to the sub sample of the audience (n). you can't compare true population surveys to sub samples (which are assumed to represent the true population; accounted for /not accounted for collection bias). We can't validate audience rating without several other factors. These two aren't really comparable because their reviews maybe influenced by different things. You are correct in that my assumption about audience ratings not being vulnerable to external pressures is wrong. We don't have reliable numbers from which to draw inferences, so we have to go on the best available info. Even if the audience data is cruddy, at least it's concistently cruddy, meaning you can draw from trends. Maybe it's not 60% but I bet it's a lot better than 18%. Not defending the adaptation, but Just saying there is a difference in the critics an audience reviews. Sorry for the rant, and I apologize for the unjust comparison.

D-Box made my daughter queasy, so be aware if you don't handle being shaken around well :) I won't pay the extra for a vibrating seat--lol

I hope they've improved the technology. Many years ago we went to a 4D movie at wonderland. It was about 10-15 minutes long. A spongebob cartoon, and designed specifically for 3D classes and motion seats. You were in a roller coaster, flying in something... but it was very jerky. OK for 15 minutes, but would have been painfully for a full length movie.

We also had the option of toning it down or turning it off completely if we did not like it - but having said that, for me it was really just a gimmick and not worth the extra money - the two people I was with enjoyed it, however.

My son is going to see The Dark Tower again today with another friend - I am not sure - because it's a new release, does that mean on Tuesday it does not qualify for a discount?

Around here Tuesday is cheap movie day.
Depends on what time they see it- if it's early afternoon then it should be discounted.

Was the part when Jake and Roland were trying to enter a portal back to keystone earth, taking place in the town from Wolves of the Calla?

It was an ok movie, seemed to take bits of a few books and mash them together, while trying to be it's own movie.

i guess that could be where that was supposed to be. it was kind of hard to tell, tbh. i didn't catch a name or anything.
