I haven't read it - but I've seen Simon Birch - my then 6 year old daughter and I were a sobbing mess at the end of that movie. Heartwarming for sure, but sheesh!

Loved the book!!! Never saw the movie but from what I've read in reviews it's really not like the book.
I enjoyed the story, never saw a movie...and reading the story I tried to imagine what Irving thought Owen's voice sounded like. Best I could do was Froggie, from the Little Rascals...if you remember that? cat in a bag if you do read the story I hope it works as hoped for.
I always 'heard' his voice as nails on a chalk board filtered thru a bag of rocks being juggled. I love how John Irving always used capital letters whenever Owen spoke- brilliant!
Owen has this great line in A Prayer For Owen Meany

Well, this will certainly make the night better...
Franzia will do in a pinch. Here I am at my horrid Wednesday work night. The funny thing is : all I have to do is be here. What was I whining about? If I was at home right now I'd be playing scullery maid, Momzilla - the homework Nazi, loving doting wife to the Ogre. Here all I got to do is hang out in my office making sure all the things go swell. And since we're a Catholic church, the choir keeps a stash of wine. Lucky, lucky me.

Google images is so weird. I googled Houdini - got a picture of Christopher Walken wearing a Houdini shirt. Google "fancy girls getting pedicures" for Lepplady's surprise party, got a picture of Johnny Depp. It makes no sense.
