Wonder Boys - Michael Chabon

I am a big fan of the film Wonder Boys but had never read the novel. So, when Wonder Boys showed up as a kindle deal of the day last week, I decided it was time to read it. I'm about 75% in and I think the book is awesome. I haven't seen the film for a while but from what I remember, the film seems fairly faithful to the book. There is one big section of the book missing from the film but the film captures the spirit of the book very well. There are parts of this book that are laugh out loud funny. I'm glad I picked this up.

Finished with Pandemic by A.G Riddle. So-so. Very well researched but not as well told and much to long. 700 pages was at least 200 perhaps 300, pages too much. But i enjoyed it nevertheless, i can even enjoy very bad pandemic type stories and this was not bad.

Finished Departure. Also by A.G Riddle. About a planecrash and the aftermath, had a strong Lost vibe to it. There are poeople who know more than they should , conspiracies but sadly the character development isnt good enough For me to care what happens to the characters. The two protagonists Nick and.... I've already forgotten her name, are just letters on a page to me. I think i will desert this author now. He has gotten two chances and did not take them.

I’m rereading Clan of the Cave Bear.
This is the second time someone's mention the novel this week. I volunteer at a museum in the geology/fossil section, and the other day a woman who came to my station highly recommended the novel. How do you like it so far in your re-read? Would you recommend it. She said it's part of a series, but only the first book is really worth the read.

Its ,I think, a 6-book series. Its wellresearched throughout. She has read alot about Cromagnons and neanderthals and it shows. The first book is very good but it goes downward from there.. The third is OK, The second and the sixth are boring, the fourth and fifth are passable but not more. They are in my field so i enjoyed them but the longer the series goes on the more repetitive it gets. And then, of course, it the boring sexscenes that is there throughout from book two onwards. I liked The Inheritors by William Golding more from that time (Cromagnon/Neanderthal metting).

Finished Sunshine by Robin McKinley after a rec from skimom2. As promised, it is a new take on vampire fiction. No sparkling un-dead, either! I think I will look for more by this author.

Started Ready Player One by Ernest Cline and I'm loving all of the 80's pop culture references!

Oh, and I'm almost done listening to UR on my home/work commute!

Awesome text! Are you a fan of Victorian literature? It's late Victorian, but I think Eliot's Middlemarch is absolutely brilliant (also published in serial form).
Not a fan of just Victorian literature but I do like the old classics. I am hoping to be brave enough to tackle Joyce's 'Ulysses' in the next year or two.
