Taxes are stressful enough without the extra stress of trying to find documents and dealing with a forgetful parent. I'm sorry you had to deal with all that CoriSCapnSkip.

Aside from my Moderator duties, I had two new crowns glued on. I swear, half my teeth are crowns, now! Thankfully I have a great dentist and the prelims to the crowns (root canals, et al) aren't too bad. I get gas and he's good at the Novocaine shots so with tunage to help, I've managed to get through about half a dozen procedures. It's not how I would choose to spend the afternoon but it's not as bad as it could be.

….Good luck in that runnin' thing!.....

Thankee!! She did well. It was her first high school meet so she had no recorded time and they put her in the slow heat. She got bunched up for a bit, but finally broke away before the end of the 1st lap and ended up winning her heat by about 40 meters (7 seconds) over the others, so she was happy and now they know she should be in a faster heat! :D

...you done good bubba....
Thanks. We'll be losing her for three years, if not more as she heads off to law school afterwards. The scholars program allows the students to graduate in three years but they have to attend year round. And that's if she makes it. She already broke two rules on the overnight trip with the student guide provided her. I guess she thinks rules are only guidelines. I wonder where she gets it from.

Great news. Those times our kids make us extra proud live with us forever.

First I went to the hospital for my physical therapy. The therapist is really nice. Everyone was talking about flooding locally and in other areas.

Then I called H & R Block for an appointment for Mom, in a town around 30 miles away, because she had spent several days sighing and groaning over her taxes and ended up calculating that she owed over $4,000! I went nuts for half an hour looking for a certain document Mom claimed to know nothing about, finally grabbed what I could, and when we got to the office the guy there immediately found the document right with the other things! Another document was missing and he said if I couldn't find it and email him a copy we would have to go to an office and request a copy and they wouldn't give it to me alone--Mom had to go in person. By that time, that office was closed for today, and we have stuff going on Thursday and Friday and it would be closed on Saturday, and tax day is on Monday.

The meeting was really hilarious. Mom didn't understand the simplest most basic things, such as the forms and what they were for, and started sorting not only through what we brought but items on his desk, and he said, "Hey, get out of my stuff." He would ask her the simplest question such as date of birth and she would rattle on about random details and he said, "It's like talking to my mother!" Finally he got the date of birth out of me. He did the best estimate he could without the other document and said Mom owed NO taxes!

I regretted that we did not seek professional help ten years ago--I know she's overpaid thousands, if what he says is true--but at least we've put a stop to it. Even with getting all documents to him, we will have to go in person again before filing but they are open on Saturday.

When we got home I ransacked the living room and Mom's room for two and a half hours. When I turned up the envelope but not the document itself, I got worried and emptied the wastebasket, which turned out to be lucky as some items in there didn't belong in the trash. Finally gave up, went online, and found somehow my sister had obtained a copy of the document, so I sent it to him saying I guess Mom didn't have to go in person after all! Fairly flattened at this point.
If she has overpaid, she can file amended returns for at least the past 3 years and get a refund. It sounds like it might be a challenge, though, to find the paperwork to document it if past years are anything like this one's.

Last night was a hectic evening at the part-time home improvement job. Everyone was out getting grills, lawn mowers and patio furniture. And in their ultimate wisdom the DIY center only scheduled me in the department. I was often helping 3 and 4 customers simultaneously in between calls from other departments, as I was apparently the only person on board who was certified to operate all the power equipment. It was hectic but fun… I enjoy chaos. I worked with a couple that were buying a lot of outdoor stuff. After we were done the wife said she had one of the most pleasant experiences as I showed her equal attention as I did her husband through all their questions and my recommendations. She said she never experienced something like that when she was shopping with her husband. She said they own a seafood company and wanted to do something nice for me and would be bringing me a bunch of lobster tails and crab legs the next time I was working. I thanked her and said it wasn’t necessary. But she was very insistent and wanted to do something for me as a measure of thanks. I told her if she really wanted to do something nice for me forget about the lobsters and crab legs and get something good and nutritious where you can get the most for less and donate it to a local women’s shelter where moms and their kids could enjoy a real treat. She was reluctant at first as she really wanted to do something for me but I was steadfast that donating food would mean more to me than anything personal I could get. She finally relented, with some encouragement from her husband, and asked if they could donate it in my name. I said sure, if that’s what you want. I don’t know if they will make the donation but at least I got it in their ears that those of well means should think about helping those less fortunate.

Today I’m thinking 'what have I done... turning down lobster and crab legs… I must be out of my mind.' ;):)

I bought from the Saint Vincent de Paul store The Mammoth Book of Body Horror (it has a Stephen King story in it). I watch the special features of the movie 'The Thing' ( I think it is the best 'horror' movie I have seen at the cinemas since I've been alive. The special effects are brilliant.) In the Body Horror book is the story 'Who Goes There?' which is the story that the movie is based. I'm also going to start reading the Stephen KIng/Peter Straub novel The Talisman again as I want to make a post in the thread on SKMB about the book.

I have spent the last two days in a training class where they are trying to teach me 7 habits of highly effective SwiftDogs.

Got a day chock full of meetings and two more classes regarding Agile Project Management tomorrow.

Flying home Friday morning.

Right now I am drinking Sangria and waiting for my pizza. Then it’s back to the hotel to work on my MBA homework
