That's very cool, I'd get a rocket launcher while you're at it. 6 feet tall, 500 pounds. Sheesh! (Sheesh is a word I don't use that often)
If the bear returns I’ll pick up some bear spray. It’s quite effective. I don't hunt bear as they are quite beautiful creatures and there numbers are diminishing as they lose habitat. Whitetail deer on the other hand are becoming quite a problem around here as their populations have been increasing. Last year my brother-in-law totaled his car on his way to my house when one jumped out in front of him.

Black bears around here are not dependent on humans. They have an abundance of habitat on the mountain (I'm located on the foothills of the mountain). It was just probably a opportunistic thing on a pre-spring journey. I’ve been feeding the birds for 20 years now and have never had an issue with bears before. Whitetail deer, yes, but not bears. But if it returns I'll stop feeding the birds for a time as I couldn’t afford to keep buying new feeders.

Once, about 40 some years ago, I was fishing at a lake on the bank. A black bear came at me from the woods. I had no place to go but into the water. It apparently wanted my fish, grabbed them and took off.
That’s why it’s vital to get rid of the food source before it becomes dependent and a problem. If that bear found your feeders once it will be back! I’ve lived in the same house since 1989 and bears were never an issue up until a few years ago. Bear populations are on the rise here in New England and interactions with humans is becoming a very big problem.

New Hampshire Fish and Game advises feeding the birds from Dec.1st until April 1st to avoid confrontations with bears so that what I do.
Feed them between then or don't feed them between then? PA Fish and Game advises it is better to plant seed vegetation for wild birds rather than feeding them just seeds, but nothing about bears. Anyway I think I'm responsible for an army of squirrels. I counted 12 at the feeders at one time on Sunday. They say squirrel stew is good. The birds I like best this time of year are all the different types of woodpeckers that come to the suet feeders. But suet is probably the thing the bear wanted most after the winter we had and would be the first thing I stop using if it returns.

Again, we don't have a problem. But if the bear becomes a problem I will will make it the bear can’t reach any feeder. I think about 10 feet high would work. Last resort will be to stop feeding the birds.

Personally I believe garbage bags, with food in them, left out for the trash collector is a much bigger problem than bird seed. I have had my garbage bags torn open more than once. I won't stop putting out the garbage.

Last week I was in St. Louis for work. Next week I will be in St. Louis for work. I am sick of St. Louis!

Today, I voted in the primary on my lunch hour and then got myself a nice, hot roast beef sandwich. Now I'm working at being the best quasi-government employed SwiftDog I can be!

Steaks in St. Louis are the best in the world. Well, they were at the Tucker’s Place and Ruth’s Chris, anyway.

Yes, any beef related meal is better in St. Louis than any other state I've visited. Just like seafood is better on the east / west coasts as opposed to middle America.

BBQ is pretty good there as well!

....whatever you do, don't take a whack at it with a 9mm or .308-you'll just piss it off....if you need a gun for something like this, .45 ACP at least.....
