number one hit , march 31 1968

He could really croon nicely, and he had such creepy songs.

Anyway for me:

Black Thursday, the official start of the Great Depression. I learned that as a kid and never forgot it. You can say, oh, the UN Charter was adopted, or, hey, that's when the Soviet Union invaded Hungary. Nope. I'm keeping Black Thursday.

on Aug 4, 1959 some lead up to the Vietnam War happened, but I forget what. I also read somewhere that 8/4/59 was the date that the Dalai Lama left Tibet for India.

And I was born, "lacking only that much" of being a boy. Or so my father says to this day, holding his thumb and forefinger about an inch apart. har daddy har

I had to google that actual date. It's Very close to my mom's birthdate.

Funny story....One year on her birthday someone asked how old she was. I quickly did the math and said "that's when the Great Depression started". My mom turns to me and says "your dad has blamed me for a lot of things, but even he never blamed THAT on me".

1969 1st Moon Landing: Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin from Apollo 11, 530 million watch live global broadcast

My dad let me stay up late to watch that fuzzy, "snow"-encrusted moment. After we watched it for a while, we stepped outside, looked up at the moon, and marveled at what we had just seen and what was in our field of vision way up there.

So much potential for the human race at that moment. Sigh.

I think the two might be linked.

That is funny.

But.....
....yeah, I believe it's all linked.

July 10, 1921, former World Middleweight Champion Jake LaMotta, nicknamed The Bronx Bull and The Raging Bull was born. 96 & Still alive! And in July 10, 1040, Lady Godiva rode naked on horseback through Coventry, according to legend, to force her husband, the Earl of Mercia, to lower taxes! Makes me feel a bit ... inconsequential. :icon_eek:

Don't feel inconsequential!

I'm sure we can find you a horse.

Not apropos to much, the term "Peeping Tom" comes from the probably apocryphal tale of Ms. Godiva's equestrian outing.

Nobody of note was born or died on my birth date. While I could only find one thing of note that happened on that day (one website said El Salvador army kills 900), it appears that the aids epidemic was 1st brought into the news.
